Traveling to other Caribbean islands

Bahamas...I do have an interest but with so many islands to choose from I would have no clue as to which one to choose from for accomodations.

A professor of mine is from Aruba and he's been trying to get me to go since 2005. The footage I've seen of it on Travel Channel has been amazing - the island looks gorgeous! But lack of nightlife may be an issue.

A friend went to CR and said it was nice, but not JA she said the day excursions were nice but she missed the yaadie vibe.

Virgin Islands - another possibility but expensive. We get cheap flights from Cali but accomodations are an arm and a leg.

Anyone been to Antigua?

Hubby and I never got the chance to take a honeymoon trip, and since Gavin was born Christmas Eve, we've pushed back our honeymoon from this year to next year (we're going back to JA this year). Initially Barbados was the planned destination site, but I'm still considering other islands. For those of you that have been to other islands please post your experiences, photos, tips, etc. Thanks!

Nuttin a gwaan inna DR - scratching that off my list. I'm not a resort person, I want to be around the locals in the mix of things.

Our next trip will most likely be state side, Florida, or Vegas for our anniversary, maybe North Carolina? I heard they have a nice island. We'll most like head back to JA this summer. Then try Mexico, Bahama's or the Virgin Islands first of next year. I love JA tho, I can never get enough of it. Hubby started a home just before he left. He took me to see it one our last visit. It's high in the hills, with a view over the new resort they are building in lucea? over the peer. We're excited about finishing it. I'm just concerned about building on property that's not totally ours, what do you all thing about that? Can they take it away from you? Hubby tired to explain it to me but I said I need something in writing before I send my hard earned money down.

Hubby started a home just before he left. He took me to see it one our last visit. It's high in the hills, with a view over the new resort they are building in lucea? over the peer. We're excited about finishing it. I'm just concerned about building on property that's not totally ours, what do you all thing about that? Can they take it away from you? Hubby tired to explain it to me but I said I need something in writing before I send my hard earned money down.

Hubby doesn't have the papers for the land? And he started building? Definitely risky...I don't know enough to give advice, hopefully someone can come in and help you with this one.

hubby explained it that u rope of the section u want and then u get the deed, usually offered in election years. but if u build and are not there people can come and claim everything fi dem own.

Girl yes a garage and two rooms already, he said that he was told to pick the lot build, den come back fi de papers dem cause so many people start build and not finish? Not sure but def checking into it.

We went to Aruba last May to visit Damien's mother. Aruba is beautiful although most of it is desert....kinda reminds me of Texas but next to the beach...strange. It was hot but strong winds all day. We stayed at the Mill Resort and Suites but don't recommend because it was not near anything. Damien's mother and aunt had cars so we didn't have to worry about transportation.

Aruba can be expensive. Luckily we got a good deal on a airfare and hotel ($750 each) for 5 days. Sometimes the airfare alone is $600 from DC. I'm always checking rates for Damien. Food was expensive - $35 on breakfast one morning and dinner cost $60-80.

It didn't seem to be much of a nightlife there...at least not for us. Yes, there is a JA community there so that helped. We did tourist and non-tourist things and we didn't find the locals to be friendly....not all.

However, it is very quiet and romantic...nice place for a honeymoon. Radisson Aruba and Renissance Aruba were nice hotels.

My friend in Aruba, her boyfriend "Rambo" is a Jamaican and a DJ. She's told stories of some pretty happening night life. If nothing else, I'd find out some information about that for you if anyone ever goes.

I would like that information if we go back this year. I know there has to be a good party if Jamaicans are involved. The only Jamicans we met were at church.

Damin is dying to go to the Bahamas. I would love to visit Barbados and Turks and Caicos.

I stayed at Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas for 5 days- verrry nice but the prices are outrageous. I cruised from San Juan- to St Thomas USVI, Barbados, Martinique, St. Martin and Antigua. I really liked San Juan P.R. and Orient Beach on St. Martin was absolutely beautiful. But the best of the islands on the cruise was Barbados-hands down. To me that has the closet vibe to JA but honestly JA is in a class of it's own. I've also been to Hawaii which I loved too.

The pictures are just amazing. I want one of those cabins over the water.....glass floor so you can see the sea life, your own private dock.....Just breathtaking.
