Tornado heading my way

I know,,,away from the computer...

Seriously, look at the radar for 60435. They just said my town is in the path of a tornado. Now, I don't scare easily. I have lived in 'tornado alley' all my life. I am used to having a basement tho. I am in a house now on a concrete slab, no basement to go to. So, is the bathroom a good idea? My car? I have 40 min to get ready for this.

Though tornadoes can strike in an instant, there are precautions and preventative measures that people can take to increase the chances of surviving a tornado. Authorities such as the Storm Prediction Center advise having a tornado plan. When a tornado warning is issued, going to a basement or an interior first-floor room of a sturdy building greatly increases chances of survival.[68] In tornado-prone areas, many buildings have storm cellars on the property. These underground refuges have saved thousands of lives.[69]

Some countries have meteorological agencies which distribute tornado forecasts and increase levels of alert of a possible tornado (such as tornado watches and warnings in the United States and Canada). Weather radios provide an alarm when a severe weather advisory is issued for the local area, though these are mainly available only in the United States.

Unless the tornado is far away and highly visible, meteorologists advise that drivers park their vehicles far to the side of the road (so as not to block emergency traffic), and find a sturdy shelter. If no sturdy shelter is nearby, getting low in a ditch is the next best option. Highway overpasses are extremely bad shelter during tornadoes (see next section).[70]

I have never heard thunder like this in January before. wow..in harvard Il, they are showing tipped over semi's.

We just had a tornada touch down 2 miles from us. Talk about scared sh*tless!!!! The sirens have been going off since 4pm, Gary and i went down into the basement. The area that the tornada hit took out a whole subdivision More details are coming in, i just pray no one got killed or injured. Only damage we had was a small fence snapped off.

Kenosha county where my sister lives has reported several houses leveled. Last we heard from her, she was heading to the basement.

That's where we live, Kenosha county. Another thunderstorm has just passed thru.

I just noticed in my other post i spelled tornado, tornada I guess i am alittle shook up
