I gave my desktop to my mom last year and bought myself a new laptop instead... I'm kinda happy I did that, that way I don't have to worry about shipping that part much ^^

For the rest of my stuff, well, I will only ship some personal belongings, some CD's/DVD's/books and stuff that I want to keep but it wont be much.. A some of it is already online at ebay and other auction sites and more will probably follow soon but so far it has only been stuff which I don't use anyways anymore...

I am unsure when I start shipping the stuff that I want to keep tho.. I am kinda cautious about it, what if the visa gets denied? Idk, it's scary hehe. Plus, if the visa gets denied, my SO will come to my country instead (well, we will move south to Belgium instead in that case.. stupid Netherlands made it VERY hard for us people :( but I hope that wont be necessary).

oh gotcha. I'm sorry. it doesn't cost on my cell phone to call within the US. I tried emailing and got an email back 2 days later saying that they're so backed up that they weren't taking personal case emails. just general questions. but its worth a try. best of luck to you

It's a pity that Ricky can't come and accompany you on your trip but $2,500-3,000 is a considerable amount of money especially when going through the visa process! I'd have made the same decision.

I hope that you'll have a good trip; it's around 20 hours for me to travel to California, too, and it's so tiring! But at least flying is one of the 'easier' trips to make in that you have to carry your luggage for the least amount of time and you don't really have to think about anything, just follow the signs.

We should start another topic for people who have to fly about 20 hours or more to get at their SO's  hehe

Last year it took me close to 24 hours to get at my SO, this included 2 stopovers, both quite short ones too... gah I was tired when I arrived :/ but... it was worth it :D

too bad the stupid plane tickets are so darn expensive, may would be the last month for us to travel, june up until half september will be about 3000 euro (about 4500 usd) or even more for us to travel (normally it is about 1000 euro, about 1500 usd, for my trip).. its soooo expensive these days, it sucks, I know I wont be seeing my SO before september (well, unless I get the visa sooner and really want to leave but I rather save the money for the AOS and such tho).

Yes, this visa process will limp our finances for the next few months but as long as we would be together, we could find ways to turn it around. We just need to be frugal as a bee.

Thanks for the well wishes Rachel. I hope you would already be preparing to go there when end of july comes.

last time ricky came here, it took more than 48 hours coz of some airline problems... my mistake on the 18hours,,, the least travel time is 21 hours... the options are 21hours to 40hours depending on how many stops.

last time he was here, the fare was just 1300++ round trip... now its 1,800++-5000 depending on class and how many stop over..

Door-to-door is 26-27 hours for me, and the longest journey I've taken has been 72 hours; Gaye, you and Ricky have my full sympathy! I'm hoping that once I'm in the US I won't have to travel back to the UK every year but will manage to get my friends/family to visit me occasionally instead. ;)

Ticket prices are around $1600 for economy in the summer but in winter time they're only around $850 so I foresee a lot of Christmas visits. That is also why I'm planning to have my wedding in the autumn/winter-time.
