well i can tell you this.. its a big local story here in the ny metro area because the 2 guys acquitted are from around here.. one from new jersey and another from long island. seems that these guys come from well off families so the fact that they were acquitted was a big story. also just the fact that they GOT acquitted so fast is news... rumors are that politics (what a shock) forced the DA to file charges quickly. but one of the guys is coming out with what looks to be a pretty solid alibi - a cab driver who picked up before the rape as well as an atm receipt....

It truly is sad that a story like this takes up so much of the media's time, but these are the kinds of stories that do. It's frustrating, like you say, when there are so many other issues affecting Americans that SHOULD be on the news, but aren't.

That is supposed to mean that if anyone is even "part" black... as long as they were done dirty by "the man" then for the purposes of the news media... the black race is still being held down by the white race.

Why are stories like this taking up so much of the news time when gas is $3 a gallon, US troops are getting killed daily, key players in the Bush Administration are stepping down, and support is gaining for an impending battle with Iran? (Not to mention that North Korea has nukes already, there is genocide occuring in Africa as we speak, the Nepalese government is shooting to kill, Hu Jintao is censoring media reports about his visit here, Hugo Chavez has a television special every week..... and what about baseball?)

Come on news media. Grow some balls. Report on real issues.

Durham is notorious for it's class and race issues, even more specifically, there've always been tensions between Duke and NCCU students. I'm interested in the story and how it develpos, not just for the outcome of the case, but for the repercussions in the city of Durham, and the Duke and NCCU campuses.
