yes because clearly this is a huge issue for NJ. Forget about so many towns there being some of the ugliest places I have even seen on earth. Or the high crime rate etc

I thought I remember you saying previously that you'd never actually been there...

There are ugly, crime-heavy towns in NJ - but you tend to see that in certain areas - Elizabeth, Newark, Jersey City, Irvington etc. With the exception of Atlantic City - the rest of the state is actually quite nice.

Nah. I have been to Jersey. While there are some really nice areas there are also some really really shocking places.

Yes there are. And while I don't much care for NJ in general - I don't think its accurate to suggest that the state is one big Newark. Its like saying Los Angeles is one big Compton.

I agree, quit wasting money on ####### like this. These legislators are so full of themselves.

I guess you'd rather they spend time on things like this?

This is insane, IMO.

New Jersey's highway tolls would increase at least 50 percent every four years starting in 2010 under a plan to be unveiled Tuesday by Gov. Jon S. Corzine...

...

... the increases would also include adjustments to reflect inflation in the years tolls weren't hiked, said the officials who requested anonymity in order not to upstage the governor's Tuesday speech.

http://www.nj.com/newsflash/jersey/index.s...torylist=jersey

So he's asking for real increases of 50% every 4 years, which will translate to nominal increases of over 50% every 4 years.

I'd much he rather he just apologize for slavery and stop.

They need the extra money to pay for their nonsense proclamations.

I agree we pay them enough to provide the roads without tolls at all. oh, BTW we don't have any toll roads in Oregon! No paying, No waiting.

Due to their proximity to NY - the Garden State parkway and the NJ turnpike are some of the most heavily trafficked roads in the country. I imagine that maintaining those in decent state of repair is rather expensive. That said, I don't think we should fork out more money without at least determining whether they actually need it, or rather need to find better ways of using the money they have.

You think you're being asked, don't you? :P You're not. You will pay. We're all serfs to the state.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Yes. The point was that like many other states NJ has more important issues to tackle than wasting time on BS.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

True - but as far as this "apology" goes - how much time was actually wasted? I'm guessing not a lot.

True - the NJT fares seem to go up every year. What was it... a $9 increase for a monthly bus / train pass last year?

Apparently, any kind of time, dedicated to social justice- at least symbolically, is a waste of time to some. What would be better is taking it to the next step and using state infrastructure to the benefit of educating the descendants of slaves so as to at least not perpetuate the deplorable socioeconomic conditions some fall into as a whole subculture.

Last time in Jersey was really nice time spent. The Amboys held out real nice.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

In context of course - February is black history month. So its not like this would come completely out of the blue.

I guess the dirt contained within the boundries. Which is about how much worth while the apology is.

What does it mean when a "state" apologizes for something? I understand it's purely symbolic,

but really, who's apologizing?

Jeffery AND Alla.

And there's rumblings of increasing the gax tax as well.

What?! I think they should apologize for even suggesting such a thing.

They should – and NJT should apologise for raising its ticket fares as a result.

Thankfully I don’t get the train anymore (standing room only - crammed in like sardines, smells like dry-roasted peanuts), but I do get the bus (quicker, more reliable, but you’re lucky if you get both cheeks on a seat and the person in front doesn’t put their head in your lap).

I love what they've done to South Amboy! I am not that old (32) but even I remember when SA was ghetto. It is downright desirable today

A little farther out of town... right on the water... nice!

And to think that the owner of the house was formerly an illegal (for less than a year... more like being out of status) whom overstayed a valid visa because there were death threats against her family back home... glad to report she is now a USC.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
