Hey Vj gang,

Its kind of a off topic question but again didn't know where to post. I was wondering if the credit history from Pk is transferable to the U.S. Now I know obviously when I go to the U.S I will not have any U.S credit what so ever. So if a person have good or bad credit in Pak or any other country, will they check that in the U.S such as my visa, master cards or personal loans from the banks etc if they are in good or bad standings? or I have to start all over again despite my credit history in Pak? Please shed some light on this subject as I am in the stage of confusion!

Thanks in advance for all your answers.

I think I got the answer. I did some research and I think its a negative towards the transfer of credit history from Pk to the U.S but I thought visa and master card are international?

Visa and MasterCard can be used internationally but credit reporting varies by country. You should have no problem re-establishing credit in the US. There's an ongoing thread on the matter in the "Moving here and your new life in America" forum.

While MasterCard and Visa can work internationally, credit reporting has no international reporting standard. Therefore, credit rating stays behind. Move to a new country, start fresh.

Yes I know visa and m.c can be used internationally :) but I was just curious about the credit build up process in the U.S. I was hoping that I would be able to transfer my credit from Pakistan cuz I have perfect credit, damit. Well I guess not. Thanks for the info though.

Frankly, I think that if you open a US bank account with a Visa or M/C issuing bank and show them your current bankcards and document the credit limits, it may well help you get new ones issued with higher limits than a newby starting out with nothing. They would need to be able to read enough of the statements to understand what they are seeing though. They may even be able to access some information directly in the system. It just doesn't transfer to the US Credit bureaus even though they operate internationally.

hmmm, now there is an idea  Its definetely worthed a shot. I will definetely try this out and it makes perfect sense. If they are nice and smart enough they might look at it to give me a good credit limit.

thanks pushbrk
