Why are visits so hard?

My husband just left to go back to Toronto after visiting for just a little over a week. I had to work a few of those days but was able to kick back with him at home for most of them. He helped me get a little more settled here in AZ with a new bed (very yummy pillow top queen) and a new tv (47" plasma mounted on my bedroom wall). I don't feel like quite the refugee here now that I have a bed and no longer sleep on the floor. We got to see a movie, visit some new housing development sites to get a feel for how much house we can get for our money when he finally gets to live with me, worked on some dog problems I have with the dog I have here and generally laid around and enjoyed the new bed and tv. (What fabulous Christmas presents, eh?)

But I am always just severely depressed and nearly despondent when the visit is over. I hate this part and it sometimes makes me think that visiting while in process is a bad idea, but at the same time, I think I would be suicidal if I didn't get to seem him occasionally. :crying:

On a side note, my husband (who carries a Chilean passport) had a B1/B2 visa issued a few years ago. This visa expires in 2009. He was given approval to visit for 5 months (not sure why not 6 months) for this trip. He had no problems getting through the U.S. immigration this trip. We are expecting that he should have his PR card in hand by the end of this month and then he will apply for a Nexus pass for future visits.

Hopefully CIC will not lose this PR card application this time. He was a Canadian PR long before the card requirement and this is his 3rd attempt to get the actual card. He always gets more hassle from the Canadian immigration officials that the U.S. when traveling because a) he only has his landed immigrant form stapled into his childhood passport and B) never wanted or applied for Canadian citizenship.

3rd attempt! What is it with the CIC and anything to do with an application from you two!? My Husband got his card a couple of years ago, no problem, did the forms, did the pics, sent it in, few weeks later it arrives. He hasn't been here as long as your Husband but it's well over the threshold to apply for citizenship, then again when he first came over Australia didn't allow dual citizenship (they do now).

Anyway, I'm glad you two had such a great visit and it must be really hard now, however, as Liz said, soon your time will come and you will look back on all of this as just a blah memory.

Yeah, I know THAT feeling. I usually start missing him the last day of the visit. I have to remind myself to savor the last moments together before we part.

Ok, so hubby was pulled aside at Canadian Immigration (again) after arriving at Pearson Airport this morning. Keep in mind Hubby is crabby as he was traveling all night (left AZ just before midnight, connection in Newark, arrived Toronto 7:30am) so things got a little snippy. Hubby said the IO was questioning his lack of PR card and IO advised that Hubby was traveling 'illegally.' Hubby got a bit snide advising IO that he had been traveling many times on the IMM-1000 (or whatever the form is) and had applied for a PR card and CIC seems to keep losing his application. The IO told Hubby that the IO could fine the Airline (Contintental in this case) for allowing Hubby to travel with 'illegal' docs. Hubby argued that the IMM-1000 is not an 'illegal' doc and just because CIC required PRs to get the 'card' it did not nullify the legality of the IMM-1000, etc etc. The IO questioned Hubby on the reasons why he had not applied for citizenship to which Hubby responded "Because I don't want to be a Canadian." The IO got even more hostile and the converstation proceeded this way for awhile before Hubby finally got fed up with the IO (Hubby said he had a short man's attitude :jest: ) and produced the latest CIC receipt for the PR card (dated November 2007). The IO just waived him through at that point.

Everything is up to the individual officers and their judgement, I guess. And when an IO wants to be problematic or argumentative, there is really nothing you can do about it.

Ugh that sucks that your husband had a hard time with immigration.

And it is hard to be far away from your husbands. Like I said in other threads and we all know the way it is. I think we have a thicker skin than most couples. We appreciate love and all that comes with it. You two will be together eventually....lets hope soon!

Donne moi une poptart!
