Just wondering how much time it is taking these days for citizenship process. Is N400 is also backloged like I-751.Approximately how many months

Thanks

-- abstract from USCIS official website ---

USCIS has received a significant increase in the number of applications filed. In July and August, nearly 2.5 million applications

and petitions of all types were received. This compares to 1.2 million applications and petitions received in the same time period

last year. This fiscal year, we received 1.4 million applications for naturalization; nearly double the volume we received the year

before. The agency is working to improve processes and focus increased resources, including hiring approximately 1,500 new

employees, to address this workload.

As a result, average processing times for certain application types may be longer. In particular, naturalization applications filed

after June 1, 2007 may take approximately 16-18 months to process.

I don't thionk it will be possible to estimate with any certainty how long the complete process will take until the "bulge" people from last June/July have gone right through the system. They've cleared the receipting stage now and many have passed fingerprinting stage too. When these people start receiving interview appointments it'll be easier to get an idea of how things are going.

I've seen mention of one or two who applied in July who now have interview appointments, but these are exceptions, based at fast moving District Offices. Each District/Field Office will progress at a different rate, and there are a lot of DO/Field offices, so that makes it even harder to estimate a general figure.

At present on the official stats for District Offices most say they are up to 19 May in processing, & that means they haven't started on the "bulge" from June onwards yet.

I'm kind of hoping for a 7 month timeline counting from the date I received NOA (26 November), not the date I applied (26 July)but that may be optimisitc. All we can do is keep watching the forums and stats. for hints of how things are moving.

7 months seems good I was worrying that It might not go to 12- 18months If I apply in coming may.Our I-751 is also lagging by almost 12 months. This type of situations creates concerns when travelling abroad

I am assuming 12 months for the 751 and 18 months or Citizenship, 7 months would be odd, very odd.

Concerns for travelling? Unless you have serious issues why you might be refused entry as a PR, no difference, but then if you have that is a whole diferent situation.

You mean to say 18 months for citizenship from the day you apply?. : .

My serious issue is I have been approved for conditional PR but dont have GC in hand.

Well you can only apply for Citizenship 2 years and 9 months after your CPR.

So you have a long way to go, who knows what the timelines will be then. May be a lot less than my current 18 months assumption.

Boiler - 7 months from NOA = 11 months+ for full process from application date in my own case, after waiting more than 4 months to have cheque cashed. It depends where you start counting. I can't believe that it would take a further 16-18 months from NOA, not when I see some people who applied at the same time as me (and after) having interview scheduled already.

NOA to TSC 26 July 2007

Cheque cashed 19 Nov 2007

NOA 26 Nov 2007

Fingerprinting done 17 Dec 2007
