We're getting married in the courthouse in brooklyn NEXT week. very excited about that, but then i'm reading here that it may take 3-4 weeks to get certified copies..?! so that we have to wait to do AOS?!

i know, i know.

however, the website for nyc says that they give us a certificate right away. i'm wondering if we could just file the one they give us, or if it just has to be some certified copy weeks later. wouldnt the first one they give us BE certified?

When you get married, the person who performs it signs on the bottom then it is sent to the local Recorder's office, which sends the certified copy to you via snail mail after several weeks. Whoever performs the ceremony, ask them where it will be sent or better yet, deliver it yourself, if allowed. You can wait and they may give you the certified copy immediately!

We got married in the County Clerk's office and they told me I was not allowed to deliver it in person, they had to. They said I could go after a couple of days to the Recorder's office to get the certified copy in person. I checked every day and on the 3rd day it was available and I paid for the extra certified copies and got it right then. Good luck!

Here in FL, since we got married at the courthouse, we got 2 copies right away. Question them on it when you go, they may give them there, as well.

We married with a Justice of the Peace at our home on a Thursday night. Only a 3 business day wait before I could go down to city hall and get a copy. It's all computerized now.

i am going to call the courthouse tomorrow and ask a couple questions to get my head cleared up on this.

I got married in NY (in Queens) and I received the certificate right away. I sent in photocopies of the certificate with my application. Please do not send in your original document.

We got married in NC. We took the signed copy of the marriage license straight down to the Register of Deeds after being married and got our copies right away. Every state/county has its own rules though.

Try to explain that it's for immigration and that you need it right away and all, hopefully they'll be accommodating.

I went and got some copies for our AOS and it took about 15 minutes. All you have to do is fill out a form, they go into their records and find you, and then they print them out right there.

wow..they gave us the certificate then and there, and we just had to fill out a quick form and go through another line to get the certified copies! amazing. so i have one cert and three certified copies for various name change and AOS purposes..

as for the marriage, it went off successfully!

I got married in Brooklyn, and I got immediately after wedding marriage certificate. When I was getting ready AOS I just copy marriage certificate and sent with all AOS papers. Now I got interview letter and I have to take with me certified copy of marriage certificate. Should I just copy my marriage certificate and bring it or I need to go to the clerk office to get certified copies. What is the difference?

you have go to the clerk where they issue marriage licenses and ask how to get certified copies of a marriage certificate. tell them you need the short version. the first copy is $15.00 and any extras are$10 each..bring a money order from the post office downstairs.
