Ten is coming from Neg. Occ. and will bring a 14 y/o girl and a 12 y/o boy.

She will have started 2nd or 3rd year HS now and he will be starting 5th or 6th grade.

What grade level should I expect them to be placed at?

There may also be a 4th year BSRN student with interests in post-grad degree.

From experiences with my wife's nephews and nieces, I would say the Philippine education system is very comparable to that of the U.S. I must say though that my experience is limited to children attending Metro Manila schools. I'm not familiar at all with the levels in school systems in the provinces. Any school system is going to test the children before placing, but I think it will be very close to where they are at present. As for the university student, be aware that when a child reaches 21 rules change. Being an RN should make it easy to get an employment visa on their own if the age interfers with a C-2 or K-2, or a student visa to pursue the Master's here. There is an international test that Philippine RN graduates must pass in addition to their national accredition test to be eligible for employment overseas, and this past year they gave the test in Manila so that those interested didn't have to travel internationally to take the test.

Thanks, RJP.

Depending on how the timing works out, we are hoping the 18 y/o can graduate before following her mom. If she can't graduate in time to follow then we will need find a school here that will accept her Phils credits and bring her here before the clock runs out. In either case she should be under the 21 y/o threshold.

Maybe the one I'm most worried about is the HS student. I can't even imagine the culture shock if she is placed directly into the 2nd or 3rd year HS atmosphere upon immigrating at age 14. DJ

If you file an I-130 a year or so before the college student turns 21, that should be enough time to get approval, or if a child is nearing 21, you can notify NVC and they will give the case priority processing. The visa is good for 6 months from date of issue for travel, and the interview can be delayed if a person would not be able to leave in that time period, so you can use these to make the window fit the time frame you need. If you have concerns for the 14 yr old, you can certainly talk to the principal at the school they will attend.
