Well it started once I got here I noticed about a week into my trip here. Since I've been fasting, I have just been craving water :(

Hello, McFly????

If you've been fasting, of course you're going to be craving water! Your body naturally absorbs most of the water and other nutrients it needs from the food you eat. So, if you haven't been eating, where do you think you're getting your water?????

Of course you've been drinking more water than normal but that doesn't mean your body's going to automatically absorb more. It can only take in so much at a time and drinking water will pass it through you faster than if you're eating foods high in water content; fruits, veggies, etc.

Basically, you eliminated most of your body's water supply by eliminating food. If you're not going to eat, sip water constantly or if you can only drink at certain times (after sunset?) then ensure you're steadily sipping throughout the night and into the wee (no pun intended) hours of the morning.

And chew some ice chips already. (It's not cheating!)

I don't know that fasting would be an explanation for severe thirst. I fast and, yes, I get thirsty, but it's not an insatiable thirst like she's describing.

A few years back I went through about a two week period where I really had insatiable thirst. I could chug a liter of water and be dying of thirst when I was finished. I was planning to go to the doctor's since I had heard of the diabetes risk, but it went away before I made it. How much water a day are you drinking Jodo?

About 3 16 oz bottles of water after I break the fast. I have also been having alot of tea which is not normal for me as well.

Chugging does not replenish hydration levels in the body. (See above.)

Also, fasting doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be depleting your body of water either. You could very easily replace all necessary fluids when you break the fast or if you are one of those that still drinks while you fast.

Simply put, a change in diet (like while visiting another country and switching to very dry and spicy foods) could lead to being dehydrated to the point of being thirsty and even chugging water will not help. However, eating foods that are "wet" and then slowing sipping liquids like water or pedialyte or gatorade or something of that nature will eventually replenish fluid levels.

Well, if you chug a liter every hour and are drinking constantly, I would think that you would repenish yourself. I'm telling you, I was thirsty for two weeks, no lie.

But ok, sounds like you're the expert.

About 3 16 oz bottles of water after I break the fast. I have also been having alot of tea which is not normal for me as well.

Tea makes you pee, which makes those three bottles of water go right out.

Try this:

Break the fast by drinking tea and water (slowly) and then spread out the three bottles over the course of the evening. Also, try eating fresh fruits or some leafy vegetables. Onions are great too. You should also be eating something that's going to help you soak some of that water up, something salty/spicy (which you already seem to be doing). The main thing is spacing out the water you're intaking and limiting the pee-causing things like tea. Minimize your tea intake and space out the water as much as possible.

Another thing too is if you're breaking the fast with traditional foods like flat breads and small cakes, it's going to take more water to break down those carbs. Eat some dates with your tea, slowly sip the water, eat only one or two pieces of bread and more meat/veggies. Skip the cakes and sip water.

A case of beer a day will leave you more dehydrated than.... wait a minute. After a case of beer you really don't care, do you?

Are you still in Egypt? If yes....then it's that dry air. I drank like a fish every time I was there. The spicy food made me drink a lot too. On a serious note though, excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes.

Seriously, you should be checked for diabetes. Have you been tired a lot too? Sleeping more than normal? This is also a sign.

Well it started once I got here I noticed about a week into my trip here. Since I've been fasting, I have just been craving water :(

Well if you continue to be thirsty after the next few days, I would def have it checked out. A friend of mine - he was tired for about a year, sleeping 12 hrs every day. Then he became really thirsty - he was admitted to hospital because his blood sugar was completely out of whack. He is now an insulin dependent diabetic and if he had waited any longer, he couldve gone into a coma.

No to scare you by any means - but better to be safe than sorry!

You said it and that was first thing that came to my mind, Is she sleepy all the time as well thirsty. I am one like your friend.

I remember that I was always sleepy. we just moved into a new house and my Mother was getting so pissed at me cause I help with unpacking one box and really slow and then I go and sleep. Then it dawned on her and we went to see a doctor. I did not fall into a coma but like your friend, was close to it.

before my husband found out he was diabetic, he was drinking nearly a gallon of water just at night, plus what he drank in the day.

he got his sugar checked and it was well over 400, he had no other signs.

Take care.
