Get the Ball Rolling?

My girlfriend and I will next see eachother in April when she flies over to the UK to stay with me for a week. We've known since November that we're going to get engaged (she just doesn't know what day in that week in April it's going to be! So the surprise will still be there!) and are now counting down the days until she gets here (89 to go)!

Is there any reason why we can't start the process of the K-1 application right now, to minimise the overall waiting time? If it takes (on average) 210 days to process the application, I'm thinking we can save 89 of those days by applying now! Is the mutual intention to marry enough or should we wait until she has that ring on her finger? What would you do in our situation?

Wait? Or get the ball rolling now?

go ahead and get the ball rolling!!! Me and my wife started the k1 visa in september of 2006 she didn't have a ring on her finger until january of 2007. just follow the guide http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide and if you already have proof of the ring purchase send it. it isn't all that nescesary. what is important is that you have the letters of intent from each party and proof of meeting within the last two years. follow the guide and get started now!!!! had we of waited until i went to chile to propose we wouldn't had been married until august or september instead of may.

Start now!

My sweetie and I filed before he officially proposed to me (Christmas Eve!!!)

If you and your girlfriend (soon to be fiancee) have met in person in the last two years and are both free to marry, go ahead and file now.

An official engagement is not necessary!

Best of luck and congratulations!!!

Awesome! Definately the answer I was hoping for! We were hoping for a winter wedding this year, which would be cutting it fine. But this way will definately work better, we'll have more flexibility when the time comes, and won't have to wait so long to be together!

Thanks, all!

having the ring on the finger doesnt really count for anything since sales receipts dont really count as evidence in their eyes. If you're sure of the marriage/girl.. just do it now and make use of your idle time

I always used to think that having an 'official' engagement was a bit nonsensical, if the two people already knew what they wanted - and in some ways I still think that, for people who live in the same country/city/house... but for people in our situation it can make quite a big difference (such as that between saying 'yeah, let's go for it' over the phone, and having a lovely white gold and garnet engagement ring put on your finger at dusk, on the Charles Bridge in the middle of Prague, on your fiancé's birthday ;) )

all the very best with your petition, OP! I think you're definitely going to be glad you started early; as you say: that bit less to wait :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.
