we got a select comfort 5000. nessa loves it.

Do you? :)

I heard good things about those too, although they look exactly like my pillow top piece of ####### mattress and I guess that scares me...lol Although I realize it is not the same kind of stuff.

don't really matter to me. a sleeping bag on the ground is good enough.

i just bought a new mattress last week! like you, my back was SCREAMING every night to do something. i had an old ikea mattress that was making a restless sleep everynight! i bought a "DORMIA" matress. they are also foam but are not nearly as expensive as tempur-pedic beds.the particular one we got also has dr. scholl's cool gel inside for a cooler sleeping surface (my husband's body heat is so high at night!). so far, I LOVE IT. its very strange to get used to compared to regular spring mattresses, but my back hasn't hurt yet! *crosses fingers*

the main reason i wanted to buy it was because i am a light sleeper. every time my husband rolled over i would wake up with my old bed. with my foam mattress (but you can do this with individual pocket coils too, just not as good as foam, imho) i can barely feel him when he moves. KEY for me to sleep at night even if my back doesn't hurt.;)

about sending back beds and what they do with them.... i'm not sure what tempur-pedic does. but at the store i bought mine (sit and sleep) they said with beds people returned they had to be stain free or they would not accept it, AND it goes through a thorough sterilization process before they sell it again. i would assume tempur-pedic does the same. who wants to throw away a $5000 mattress? :o

good luck on your choice!

Me too. The foam mattress really dampens any movement.

i never realized what a light sleeper i was! i'm not used to sleeping next to someone else so before i had my husband i slept just fine alone! is there any way to create a deeper sleep?! lately i've also been taking melatonin but it doesn't work as well as i hoped!!

Yes that is true.....I have a foam mattress and it is great for sleep. However....There are some, shall we say, activities that are affected by the dampened movement factor. So if an active bedroom life might be affected, it is something to consider. Only your own personal preferences could affect this part of the decision as I understand personal preferences differ.

All in all though I agree that the best sleep of my life has been in this bed. I almost feel silly pointing out experiences with this mattress but.....what the heck we are all adults right? And it's not exactly something you can try in the store......

So everyone supposedly rave about them... we slept on it for one night when we were guests as someone elses's house and I must say it probably was the best sleep I have ever had, although I was exhausted too (pregnant and nauseous after a long flight). I know they are kinda pricy but so are GOOD mattresses in general and me and hubby are so desperate right now we are willing to spend what it takes in order to sleep GOOD. We look at it as an investment I suppose. :P Right now we own 2 beds which both have the WORST possible kind of mattresses possibly in the world, both brand names too go figure... one is too hard and "breaks" each and every single bone in your body, the other one is a pillow top which destroys your neck/back. It's awful...We wake up unrested, almost feels like more tired than the night before, achy all over and in a daze... :help::crying:

What's cool about Tempur Pedic is that they let you try it at home for 90 days for free and after the trial you can decide whether to keep it or return it for free...so we'll end up doing that regardless, but I'd like to hear if people on here know anything first hand about them. When you talk to sales people they want you to believe that even stone would make you feel good if that's what they sell...

Anyways...If anyone here owns one of these Swedish miracles, please let me know if you are satisfied with it and if you think it's worth the money it costs.

Thank you so much in advance from a very once-again-tired-in-the-morning Churipu. (F)

And as a second thought, if you do but the mattress go ahead and splurge on the pillows too (sometimes these are a free bonus, but if not). I do remember when I bought my mattress I was freaked out because I woke up with a stiff neck every morning. One night my neck hurt and I tossed my "old" pillow aside, and I woke up with less pain. The next day I bought a foam pillow and have slept like a baby since. I think the fact that my body was conforming to the mattress and my head was on a lump of down that was great on a traditional mattress but not so much on the foam was a problem....

:) There are. I'd recommend writing down your usual routine and then find information on sleeping restfully. I know that if I have a lot on my mind, I get anxious and have trouble sleeping. The best thing that works for me is if I get to the gym that day.

No problem here with the dampening, but to each their own. :P

Yeah, you can get ones cheaper than the Tempur Pedic. My mom got the "Bob-o-pedic" from Bob's furniture store and says it's great!

I miss Bob's.

FWIW... I slept on a tempur-pedic at a friends house for 10+ nights. I wasn't that impressed. My wife didn't like it either.

My current setup is a decent sealy mattress and a 2 inch foam topper from costco on top. The topper makes all the difference.

We need a new mattress, too. Our IKEA one is dying, or at least, it's fine with just me, but once C. gets on his side, my side bends too much and every time he rolls over I wake up.

I want one of those sleep number jobbers..they look cool.as.**.

We have 2 sleep number beds, one for us and one for our daughter. I absolutely love sleeping in that bed. I used to work for a mattress company in Canada and had a Serta and I thought that was the best bed i ever slept in until before we got our sleep number beds.

Too busy to read all the replies so pardon me if this has been said before:

1. We have one, we love it, every time I go to bed I'm glad we have it. That said, we've only had it a couple years and I've heard they go flat after several years. We decided to risk it, though.

2. It is NOT free for 90 days in the sense of actually paying nothing, you have to pay shipping BOTH ways if you do it that way and I think shipping is like $250 each way (so if you return it, you're out a total of $500). We bought ours from a store that gave us free next-day delivery and threw in one of the Tempur-Pedic pillows as well.

3. Beware of getting a Sleep Number bed if you like to cuddle with your spouse, there's a hard ridge down the center separating the two halves if you get one that allows each chamber to be inflated separately. And if you actually agree enough to get one of the ones with *one* chamber instead of two, why spend that money to get a Sleep-Number bed instead of a regular mattress that you both agree on. We did try a SN bed and it was comfortable for each of us, but then we couldn't lie wrapped around each other like we like to.

4. That was actually the reason we went with Tempur-Pedic ... it was the only one we found that was soft enough to be comfortable to sleep on, but didn't sag in the middle and give us backaches if we rolled towards each other.

5. Anyone who feels like they're not getting good sleep should also talk to their doctor seriously about the possibility of a sleep disorder.
