So everyone supposedly rave about them... we slept on it for one night when we were guests as someone elses's house and I must say it probably was the best sleep I have ever had, although I was exhausted too (pregnant and nauseous after a long flight). I know they are kinda pricy but so are GOOD mattresses in general and me and hubby are so desperate right now we are willing to spend what it takes in order to sleep GOOD. We look at it as an investment I suppose. :P Right now we own 2 beds which both have the WORST possible kind of mattresses possibly in the world, both brand names too go figure... one is too hard and "breaks" each and every single bone in your body, the other one is a pillow top which destroys your neck/back. It's awful...We wake up unrested, almost feels like more tired than the night before, achy all over and in a daze... :help::crying:

What's cool about Tempur Pedic is that they let you try it at home for 90 days for free and after the trial you can decide whether to keep it or return it for free...so we'll end up doing that regardless, but I'd like to hear if people on here know anything first hand about them. When you talk to sales people they want you to believe that even stone would make you feel good if that's what they sell...

Anyways...If anyone here owns one of these Swedish miracles, please let me know if you are satisfied with it and if you think it's worth the money it costs.

Thank you so much in advance from a very once-again-tired-in-the-morning Churipu. (F)

You really had the best sleep ever on it? I too wonder about them, if they are as great as they claim to be. I have no idea how much they cost, but imagine at least double what a normal mattress would cost?

About the 90 day guarantee - this part puzzles me. What do they do with all the mattresses that people give back after 3 months? I know they have a rule that it cant have stains, smell and must be in "new" condition. So does that mean they just pack it up for the next person and pretend its brand new? I mean there is no tempur pedic outlet where they can sell these, so what happens to those?

I too would like to hear how much these cost, and are they that great in the long run.

Yes, it was the best sleep I ever had...no kidding, but I also stated it was only for one night and I was absolutely exhausted so that probably contributed. Anywas if you go to their website they have all the prices for the different models. We would not buy the luxury models etc., those are outrageous and most places we talked to (retailers) were actually saying you don't need them, the basic model does the job just as well. They also stated they almost never get returned and when they do it's because of financial reasons such as people can't pay for them anymore etc. Then again it was sales people speaking and you never know with them, in the end they ARE TRYING to sell :P

I have no clue what happens to returned mattresses...

Seeing the commercials on TV, I think the reason some don't return them is that they have to pay the shipping, which probably isn't going to be cheap.

I would love to have one but I don't want to waste money if I end up not liking it.

I've been trying the TempurPedic bed for over 1 year. I love the way it conforms to your body but I'm having a hard time letting go of the $2500 it will cost me. I really checked around from furniture stores to mattress stores. The price does not budge. I will probably wait until my SO gets here before spending that kind of money. I know that it will be worth the money.

I just called them...basically you have to purchase the mattress (but you can get financed if you don't want to pay all the money upfront) and if you decide you don't like it and return it they refund all your money minus the shipping costs which is a flat rate of 175 $.

Foam mattresses seem to be the latest and greatest thing. We bought a foam mattress from IKEA several months ago and for a fraction (paid $249 for a queen) of what most beds cost and I find it really comfortable. If you haven't slept on one, I'd recommend going to IKEA and trying them out.

......

Here's something I found regarding mattresses:

According to Dr. Scott Bautch, a Wisconsin chiropractor interviewed by Mary Duenwald in The New York Times, "Your spine should look the same when you're lying down as it does when you're standing up." That means that when you are lying on your side, your shoulders and hips should sink into the mattress, while your waist is supported. A too-firm mattress -- whether made of foam, springs or air chambers -- may not allow enough give for that to happen. Choice.com's excellent article explains that a hard mattress may tax back and neck muscles, which will have to work harder to keep your spine straight. At the same time, editors say a too-soft mattress will also cause spinal alignment problems, as "your muscles work to compensate for the lack of support." Keep in mind that heavier people, however, may need a firmer mattress than average people in order to provide similar spinal support. But most people probably need something in the middle, neither the hardest nor the softest mattress.

Cornell University's Ergonomics group recommends looking for a mattress designed to conform to the spine's natural curves and to keep the spine in alignment when you lie down. Also suggested are mattresses designed to distribute pressure evenly across the body to help circulation, decrease body movement, and minimize the transfer of movement from one sleeping partner to the other, as well as one that includes perimeter edge support.

Although three-fourths of mattress buyers still go with a traditional innerspring mattress set, the noisiest industry buzz is reserved for expensive new technologies like Tempur-Pedic mattresses (*est. $1,000 to $1,700 depending on size) , not including foundation, made of viscoelastic, also known as memory foam. Originally, NASA created viscoelastic for use in astronauts' seats to help absorb G-forces.

We found many glowing testimonials from owners who say the Tempur-Pedic is enormously comfortable. We also found a couple of professionals who say memory-foam mattresses are a good choice for those with back pain or osteoarthritis. Jeffrey K. Bergin, dean at the National University of Health Sciences, reports to WebMD.com's Leanna Skarnulis that memory foam "supports the entire body at all the pressure points as though you're floating."

Experts say the Tempur-Pedic mattress receives a wider range of opinions from testers than other mattress types like air or spring. And while owners generally like Tempur-Pedic, a few issues pop up repeatedly in owner-written reviews. Users say that Tempur-Pedic mattresses take some getting used to, in part because they aren't as squishy as an innerspring mattress with fluffy quilted ticking. Some users say that in colder weather, the Tempur-Pedic mattress feels hard; that's an impression we found confirmed elsewhere, that the foam gets firmer in cooler temperatures. Some owners report that their new mattress has a strange chemical smell for several days up to a couple of weeks, and Tempur-Pedic acknowledges that this odor is a result of "our unique manufacturing process." The odor goes away eventually, but some find it noxious. A Tempur-Pedic spokesman told testers the company would replace the mattress if the smell continues to bother the sleeper.

While most reviews say the Tempur-Pedic mattress is very supportive, some say that because the form conforms to your body so much you can feel a bit like you're being swallowed by the mattress, and that it's hard to move around or change positions easily.

One obvious drawback to a Tempur-Pedic is price. A queen-size mattress costs in the neighborhood of $1,500, and that doesn't include a box spring (*est. $225). That's twice as much as a high-quality innerspring mattress set. Other manufacturers are now making less expensive foam mattresses to compete with Tempur-Pedic. The most notable of these is the Bergad Isoform (*est. $850), which according to reviewers compares well to Tempur-Pedic and costs a fraction of the price. Sealy, Serta and others are now making their own versions of memory-foam mattresses.

I think this is the one we ended up getting.

5 different comfort zones provide posture support where it is needed at the same time as they relieve pressure on shoulders and hips.

Pressure relieving latex contours to your body, enabling you to relax more fully and improving circulation to both muscles and skin.

The flexibility of latex effectively cushions your movements in bed providing truly soothing and more relaxed sleep even if your partner moves around.

The open-cell material improves air circulation and allows moisture to evaporate naturally.

Reversible. Use both sides to keep the mattress fresh and prolong optimal comfort.

Roll packed, easy to take home today.

That's not too bad then, it might have been the sleep number commercial, anyway one of those commercials I thought was a ripp off. lol. I hate buying mattresses, I mean when you go into the stores, jump on them, lay on them etc you can't tell what they are like until you have slept in them for a week or two. Mattress firms are making a killing I bet.

Thank you guys! I mean..it doesn't have to be a Tempur Pedic...I didn't even know there were actually others making cheaper versions of basically the same thing. Hey thanks for your feedback! That's the most frequent type of comment I get when I ask...great but pricy although worth the money.

I'll tell you, for a few months, we were sleeping on a Coleman air mattress...it wasn't too bad but if the air pressure was slightly down, my back would be stiff as a board the next morning. I just didn't want to go out and buy any old box spring mattress (I hate 'em) and then one day when we were at IKEA, I saw the foam mattresses on display, sat on them and I was sold. :)

Good luck! You can buy their top of the line foam mattress and still save a fortune over getting the Tempurpedic.

I have found, personally, that the non-foam IKEA mattresses don't last very long. I don't know if their foam ones are better, but their regular ones go after about three years.

Something to keep in mind, whether it's that you want an inexpensive trial mattress for a couple years or you want one purchase to last you the next twenty.
