My wife already had a Social Security Number / Card before she came into the county, and received an EAD stamp at the POE (JFK). After arrival she waited two weeks and then started looking for a job (tired of sitting home while I was working). Immediatly she found several job offers (three job offers out of three resume submissions), and took a job near our home. Her social security card has valid only with INS author (she got it several years ago), and combined with the EAD stamp on the I-94 she was hired.

We had filed for AOS and EAD together (mailed the apps on Friday) but can she work during this limbo time? Her employer has not said anything.

Also, we went to a SS office to change her name and they turned us away. The woman at the office said the the registry should not have changed the name on her license until we changed the SS card, and if we changed he name on the SS card before recieving the green card it would take several months, and still say valid only with DHS authorization. She told us to wait until we recived the EAD and the Green Card to change her name on the SS card.

She can work till the I-94 with the temp EAD stamp expires.

Then she will have to wait for the EAD.

Problems with the name change on the social security card or the social security office in general are pretty common. Just go back there with the an official USCIS document you, EAD or GC like you already mentioned, and it will be all fine.
