I hope I've come to the right place! It's kind of off topic but I am currently in the beginning stages of our K1 petition and wondered once I return home to marry my fiance can I drive using my British driving license temporarily before I apply for driving lessons/ test in the US? I have driven in the US during my 3 trips and let's just say I am a natural ;)

Any response on this one will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers VJers

It varies by state. Most will allow you to use your non-US driving license for a while.

Check the DMV website of the state you're moving to.

Good luck with the K-1

You need to check with the BMV of the state. Some allow it for a a brief period and others not at all.

My understanding from the previous threads I've read is that many DMVs are allowing the British and Australians and the ones from New Zealand to drive about 12 months with their driver's licenses.

If you want to get an American Driver's license though, you should apply as soon as you get into the country because your I-94 still would be valid for quite a while so they might issue you a DL. Sometimes they issue it with the same expiration date as the I-94 though. Go figure
