Hi, everybody! It's finally time for me to de-lurk.

I've been lurking here for a couple of months already, but didn't want to post here until things were official. And while I was visiting my girlfriend, I proposed to her last weekend. And she said yes.

Looks like I'll be here for a while...we won't be able to start the K-1 process until late summer or fall, so it's definitely a long road ahead of us. Though I can't complain too much: despite the 600-700 miles between us, we have (since first meeting in person in June) had five visits of about a week each, and two more are planned before the end of March. And the phone calls and online chats help a lot.

But I'm glad to see the community here and it has very much helped me get much less anxious about the process ahead of us already. I can't wait to be a more active participant. And, of course, definitely looking forward to being together with my fiancee and her family.

Welcome to VJ. I have a question though. If it's not too personal of course. Why can't you file before summer or fall? I mean it takes a few months to get the visa and it's valid for 6 months. Maybe you could start the process earlier while doing your thing to spare the waiting later? Just a thought!

Congrats on your engagement :) I know it's wicked exciting :)

Would that we could, but there's the small matter of waiting for her divorce to be final, and the process for that stuck waiting on the calendar until the summer. Believe me, we don't intend to wait any longer than we have to. :) Until then, we'll just be learning patience. And we'll have plenty of time to make sure we have the appropriate forms and proof documents ready to send off the instant that's possible.

I know exactly what you mean! Divorce seems to take such a long time even when uncontested *sighs* and it can be awful having to go through all that stress but at least it does prepare you somewhat for the stress and paperwork required for this application process.

Good luck with your journey and remember to read all of the guides plus the reasons for common RFE in the meantime!

CONGRATULATIONS and good luck! We also had to wait for the divorce finalization to get started. At least this will give you a chance to be well-prepared when the process starts so your journey will go smoothly!

Welcome. Even though the divorce won't be final a short while, it'll probably take that long to get all of the paperwork properly filled out. I suggest to start getting all of your evidence together now while you are still fresh from your trip. That way six months later you are not trying to remember where you put this or that.

The longer it takes to introduce yourself the less you've actually accomplished
