Long distance relationships make you go crazy... that is about the only thing to explain it.

No, it's called severe neglect & abuse.

Which apparently began long before the woman left for Nigeria

I'm also wondering what happened to her sixth child between the first article and the second

My understanding was that two of the children belonged to another man that was leaving his kids their while he worked, but did not pick them up a few nights.

That's not it. The first article said she had 6 of her own children at the house, plus two others. The second one said she had 5 of her own children, plus the other two there.

Police say woman left 8 children, went out of country to get married

10:52 AM CST on Saturday, January 5, 2008

Associated Press

CYPRESS, Texas – Authorities said a woman apparently left eight children – six of hers and two of her neighbor's – without an adult while she went to Africa to marry a man she met on the Internet.

Lt. John Martin of the Harris County Sheriff's Office said a deputy making a welfare check Wednesday found six children between the ages of 1 and 9 alone.

"There was trash everywhere, roaches everywhere," Lt. Martin said. "He said every item of clothing in the house was dirty."

The children told the deputy they didn't know how to reach their mother, Lt. Martin said. A 15-year-old girl arrived later and told authorities her mother flew to Nigeria on New Year's Eve.

The teen said her mother left her in charge of four siblings – a 1-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, said Estella Olguin, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services. The teen was also caring for a neighbor's 3-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl, Ms. Olguin said.

The 15-year-old also has a 16-year-old sister. Their 14-year-old and 18-year-old brothers are serving time, Ms. Olguin said.

"There was no food in the home, and Mom didn't leave them any money," Ms. Olguin said. "The 15-year-old said she had to steal food and diapers."

She said the children have been placed in foster homes.

If mom really left the country to get married, I feel sorry for the guy who is coming into that situation. That will be one case where I wouldn't blame him if he ran.

The longer it takes to introduce yourself the less you've actually accomplished
