ohh Olivia..That just plain SUCKS!!! I think u have the right attitude though coz finishing school before he gets here just might be better. Thats a great outlook. It will be difficult, especially if u can't go visit him during his "time" but well worth the wait. Just don't give up. U know how to reach me if u need to talk.

Don't worry it's not rude at all and I appriciate everyones sympathy and concern. :)

I considered the student loan thing but cancelled that idea. To my surprise this last year I learned getting married while being a student was a mistake because fasfa cut my student aid in half and I learned a new coined term called "the marriage penalty". I bawled my eyes out when I learned that because I had my hopes pinned on a Virtual Technology and Design Degree in the College of Art and Architecture at my University. I even took and payed for a summer class so I would have all the prerequests for the VTD degree this last fall.

Since I got married and they cut the student aid in half I couldn't afford the more expensive high tech degree program so at the last minute I settled for the "just as happy" bachlors of science in Radio/TV/Digital Media Production. Also taxes penalized me last year because we had to file married by filing seperatly and I couldn't get any of the tax benefits of being single like before or of being in school anymore because I got married and he wasn't here. Being married and having to file seperatly when you're a student really 'screws' ya. I spent several hours on the phone with a very knowledgable tax attorney from the IRS to sort out how I was going to file with a non-USC spouse who hasn't immigrated yet, ect. So to answer the question I wouldn't qualify for more student loans and I was lucky to get what I did. This coming fiscial fasfa year though I know I am going to qualify for some scholarships because I've made sure I kept my grades up. Also since I'm a full-time student I don't work so with me not having a job I wouldn't qualify for any private loans.

I don't know how they came up with the $4,000 USD sum. All I know is that is what the "corrupt" officer told my Husband it would cost for him to not have to serve and how can this officer really garuntee that he would do what he said? I know from my brother, Oz, who is in the Marines that it would cost $150,000 USD to buy his contract so he wouldn't have to serve the remainder of his time so I guess in some ways we're lucky it's not as expensive as that.

I really have to laugh at my situation now. This is all just too funny how one thing affects another and works it's way into these paths and patterns that affect our lives. I'm facing the facts. I'm glad to know I can contact the embassy and reschedule the interview when that times comes and maybe there is some form to file for an extension since he would be in the military. Surely we're not the first in this situation?

I'm so sorry about this situation. I'm shocked that you can get out of it for only $4,000. I say "only" because it's the price of a year+ with your SO. Is there nowhere you can get that kind of loan? Aren't you a student? Aren't you eligible for any more loans? I only ask because if it were me I would find any way possible to get that 4k. I really hope you don't take this as rude. It's just concern.

Im so so sorry to hear this. Our prayers go out to both of you. Really pray there will be some way out of this..whether it be by finances coming your way or some other type of exemption..InshAllah. I remember when I was in Jordan with my husband he got some type of family paperwork for himself now that we were married. This had his pic and personal info and my name as wife. He felt so good doing this bc it showed us as our very own seperate family and he told me some of its other benefits. If I remember correctly he also told me this would prevent him from being drafted. I will check back with him when I talk to him again tomorrow. I don't know if they got the same thing in Egypt. My heart really goes out to you anyone that is faced with more delays and/or dissappointments in this process.

(F) for you

Wow, I can't believe the ####### they put you through just for getting married! (Worries me about the kind of aid Rey is going to get now that we're both students next semester....) I have a loan through Citibank called Citi Assist for students, designed to cover whatever you need that scholarships, Staffords (and in my case even Perkins) didn't cover, that has a pretty good rate, and of course no paying til you're done with school. But I know if you're resigned to the situation, you probably have your reasons, and I truly believe that things ultimately work out for the best but we can only see it later. You're obviously being really strong through this and I admire that!

On New Year's Day we got some unfortunate news we were hoping we wouldn't get. Just when I thought that the visa battle was half won the Egyptian Military sent a formal request for my Husband to come serve. He is to report Jan. 17th and be in "boot camp" or lock down as they call it for a total 45 days. We won't have any contact till the 1st of March. Then he would serve for a year to 16 months according to the instructions. He is going to see what he can do legally about it but it sounds like he is going to have to serve. This means our wait is only half or just under half done and I don't know what this does to our visa process or what we can do about it. I just wanted to get on with our life together and here we hit another snag and an even longer wait and facing far less communication the second year of waiting then the first year.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone have any advice on the visa process for this kind of situation?

Olivia

This is the same dude you were divorcing via a VJ post a couple months ago, right? Because he doesn't call or respond unless he feels like it? I'd say now is your perfect opportunity to GTFO. But history shows you'll just waste 2 prime ovulation years for this dude.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Hey Olivia, I hope that things will work out the way they are meant to do so. We are here to support you.

P. S. Interesting, how some people just come over and post to stir the pot and create unnecessary drama with their superior entitlement to pass judgment - I guess there are saints among us who are looking after our well being and happiness - such a concern is "admirable" but the lack of consideration is despicable, but I guess I forgot that we have our very own MENA advisory board who just pops in at the right time to remind us of our indiscretions and stir us toward the "light"

Way to go!!! Aren't we blessed :whistle::whistle:

Yes this "dude" is my Husband and I made a mistake posting that on VJ and had the thread removed. *I kindly keep having to ask ppl to pls stop mentioning it* as we worked through that sticky time. It's in the past where I like that dark past to stay. He's opened his heart more and we are more deeply connected with better communication and understanding then before such as I believe marriage should be a learning process and a work in progress. I am not concerned about wasting prime ovulation years because I'd rather have him then all the kids in the world. What is meant to be will be and if we are blessed with kids later then we are blessed. I don't want just anybody. I want him, my Husband, and I am willing to wait while focusing on finishing college. So pls, I kindly request that the bit of history mentioned pls not be mentioned again as it's not the issue presently and we're not GTFO. Thank you.

Olivia sorry to hear this. Are you sure he is going to Boot Camp or lock down? Or was the paper he recieved just a request to come and he has possibility of being sent home again. My SO says that if your marriage is legal then he should not have to serve. When they called his brother they asked if anyone in family an american citizen or married to American Citizen and if they have proof they sent them home. HERE IS HIS SIDE OF OUR CONVERSATION:

Remember when my brother Amr got called to military

they asked about if anyone married to american or his brother married to american or his sister married to american or anyone in his family has american citzen

then ask who have a proof for that

then they tell him we dont need u

and give him a paper says the militry dont need him

Babe they take all dr if they need them and only who's allowed to enter militry

and married to american he is not allow to have military

he has to go in the time

and take his marriage paper with him

but who married to american they dont take him to Military

and I heard it was 4000 egyptian pound not USD. (around 900 USD a little less)

Anyway, I am not sure how accurate it is but maybe it gives hope they will turn him away. Hugs and I will keep you both in my prayers. I really hate there is a chance he may have to go serve. But you have a wonderful outlook in case he does. We are here for you always.
