But one thing that has always troubled ME is the way we dress our young children - can someone tell me why you put a 4 - 13 yr old in a bikini. To me this article of clothing is always a means of "flaunting" the body and thereby not something a child should ever be dressed in...

OMG, yes. My parents would never have let me out of the house dressed the way some of these young girls dress! :(

I really agree with you here, kids aren't allowed to be kids anymore. They're being sexualised far too early for their minds and bodies. Belly tops and mini skirts are not proper clothing for a young girl, and I'm not a prude either.

I bet there are more date-rapes daily than stripper-rapes. Would you say it's unwise to continue dating? Without the thought-police (yet) there's not too much to do about either other than educate and enforce the law.

That's my whole point--it doesn't seem like there's much educating going on with some of these kids.

To many parent trying to be child's buddy or best friend.

I totally agree. I have two girls ages 9 and 4. They are alot of clothes out there that I won't let them wear. The problem is if the demand is there then the manufacturers of these items will make what the demand is for. Its really tough being a parent and I think especially for girls.

Getting back to the topic of discussion though. The media screws everything up. There is always more to the story than what we hear. The media only wants to show what people thrive on. The juicy gossip. Its sad but true.

I just hate how the victim ends up being less of a victim because of people's judgements. Take Emmet St. Guillen (sp.?), the girl raped and murdered in NYC. Everyone's knee-jerk Puritan reaction was "Well, what was a young woman doing out by herself drinking at 3 a.m.?" As if she got what was coming to her.

Turning the spotlight on the victims takes some of the heat off the criminals.

If I ever go to the worst part of the city carrying a nice camera, laptop and a roll of banknotes, I will probably get mugged. Yes, I will be a victim and "they" will be criminals. But it will also mean that I am an idiot, and pointing it out should not be considered "taking heat off the criminals".

Of course it should. There is an absolute amount of blame for a crime that should be attributed to the person who commited the act. If the victim shoulders a portion of the blame, that's less blame to be placed on the person who commited the crime.

I wanted to edit my post:

Maybe pointing out the idiotic actions of the victim "shouldn't" take the heat off the criminals, but it does. And that's what I think people whould be careful of when they decide to bash the victim.

So if a good message gets misinterpreted by idiots, do you stop propagating the message or do you educate the idiots?

I don't understand the connection.

Good message: People should be careful and avoid doing things that put them in harms way.

Stupid people interpretation: The girl who got raped deserved it.

Do you stop the message or do you b!tchslap the stupid people?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
