Euro travel tips, please!

covent garden for sure! portobello market. maybe camden market if you like the funkier side of things... also holland park is GORGEOUS if you want a picnic and hang out...

lots of awesome restaurants. lots of cool clubs with awesome DJ's. get some drinks at a pub. go to harrods or some of those big shops. SELFRIDGES is AWESOME and TOP SHOP is a lot of fun too! i always bring an empty suitcase to load up with all the awesome fashion they have in london.

i can ask lisbon ideas for you. my friend currently lives there!

If I had 4 days in London and wanted to a feel of neighbourhoods like a local and hadn't been in years I would do the following:

Go to the Tate Modern and walk over the millenium bridge (brand new since you were there last) - I know you say no museums but the building is amazing

Go to Borough Market and get lunch there

Go walk around Brick Lane and Spitalfields market (if they haven't completely gutted it by now)

Go record shopping at Rough Trade off Portobello Road or Covent Garden (also Fopp in Covent Garden) or on Berwick Street in Soho

Get Time Out and found out what's happening at clubs and gigs and what not - if you are all inclined towards towards alternative/experimental music go to Rota on Saturday afternoons at Notting Hill Arts club - usually a couple of bands, cheap beer (by London standards) and FREE entrance. Great place to meet people too.

that sucks. i used to live near camden market and i loved its funky unique vibe! make way for starbucks!!!!!!

Wot days will you be there? Portobello is still pretty substantial on a Friday and has the vegetable market most days (not that you will be buying many vegetables I imagine)

So how do I know in London which neighborhoods are currently good to stay in? We'll probably use couchsurfing.com.

Well you could go all in and move out to Essex - I hear Basildon and Sarfend are nice these days

Seriously though - London is more expensive than NYC as far as property prices go. A lot of people who work in London actually commute in from the surrounding counties. Of course if you've ridden New Jersey Transit - you kinda know what's in store

If you need suggestions on things to do - the Tate Modern is quite interesting, even if you're not much into art.
