Are you kidding me, that's a pretty normal check?!?!?! That story is so crazy, I'm sorry for you guys. I think I would have freaked out!!! Bank of Ireland - hello that's not some small country bank that nobody ever heard of. I hope it turns out well! Can you do a wire transfer the next time (they cannot claim that's fraudulent!!!)? I e.g. never saw a check in my life until I arrived in the US... We did everything via transfer at home. My parents told me that there were checks in ex Eastern Germany, but I don't remember, I was too young!

Steven,

I've just been watching this situation unravel and I'm glad to hear that you got the check back. However, I do agree with everyone here that the check cashing place really went over the line in what they did to Jinky. I would seriously consider talking to a lawyer and see what can be done legally here if only to make sure that this place does not continue to do what they have done to Jinky. If what they did is their SOP, then they need to get a major wake up call to review it. I think that it is also important to discuss it with the police dept who responded to the check cashing place's call. It sounds like their protocol does not protect the ordinary civilian and presumes guilt even before anything is proven. That check was Jinky's private property. By letting the check cashing place take it, the police technically condoned "theft".

Good luck!
