Greetings K-1!

After going through the K-1 process, I just want to post something that may be helpful to future VJers...

After you arrive in the US, get your driver's license or state issued ID before your I-94 expires, or at least be aware of your state's DMV rules. Some states will issue a drivers license or ID to anybody with a passport. While others (NC included) require EAD, Green Card, or K visa with unexpired I-94. The period between receiving your green card or EAD and when your I-94 expires is kind of a no man's land, and a difficult time to do things on an official basis. A driver's license or even state issued ID will save you having to carry your passport around everywhere.

Note: In NC, even if you get a DL or ID while your I-94 is valid, it will expire with your I-94. As we all know, most store clerks, banks, etc. are just looking at your birth date and not when the ID expires.

03/06/2007 Received response from Embassy - Packet 4 mailed 02/28/07. Interview scheduled 5/16/2007!

05/16/2007 Interview. Embassy requests passport amended. Luckily the turnaround time is two days in Bangkok.

05/21/2007 Pu returns to Embassy with new passport, visa granted. Visa issued the following day.

05/26/2007 Pu arrives in USA!

05/30/2007 Married!

06/26/2007 Overnighted AOS petition to Chicago Lockbox

06/27/2007 AOS petition delivered to Chicago lockbox, signed for by V Bustamante

Even if you know your state's rules, the clowns they have working at the DMV may not!

Good advice. Good luck to anyone trying to get one.

Haha, so true. It's especially frustrating being turned away at the DMV while the room is packed with "Illegal Aliens"!!!

11/08/2011 - Interview date THANKS GOD went smooth n pretty easy with the nice lady IO takes 9-10 minutes wow???????????????

I think I waited more time for my Oath Ceremony schedule rather than interview process and after 13 minutes the lady gave my sched WOW CAN'T BELIEVE ......yayyyyyyy
