I am a newbie. I married my egypt husband 3 years ago & have lived in egypt since that time. We had a daughter 2 years ago and MIGHT BE pregnant again. :innocent: We decided to finally file for the spousal visa in october and received the packet of visa application two days ago.

I havent worked in the states for sometime so I know we will need a co-sponsor which is no problem but they are telling me i also need to set up domicile in the states.

Why is that if we will have a co-sponsor anyway? also what do I do to set up domicile there without leaving Egypt 1st?

Not sure if the time line is shorter for filing in Egypt. any help or advice is welcome.

You might be able to file DCF in Cairo? I think K3 etc is for those who are in the states married and applying to bring over their spouse. DCF is for couples living in another country.

how do i know what i am filing? they just sent me the paperwork from the embassy. :help:

If you read the guides at the top of this page it will tell you the difference between all of the visa types and the forms that you should file for each. I would not recommend the K-3 only because your husband won't be able to work for a while when he gets here. My congressman's office said it's a useless visa and would never recommend doing it. (found that out too late!!!!)

You would simply file the I-130 and whatever other forms that go along with that. The guides are pretty helpful and easy to follow. Good luck!

Filing for a immigrant visa for a foreign spouse requires an Affidavit of Support. This form assures the US government that the intending immigrant will not become a charge of the State. The person who files this form must show financial income or assets to prove financial ability to maintain the immigrating foreigner.

Setting up domicile is required for file for an immigrant visa. You have to have a physical street address, bank statements or financial accounts maintained in the US, driver's license or state ID with US address, tax returns. Having a presence in USA basically.
