With everything that has been changing in airline travel lately, I wonder if anyone might have

advice on doing the logistics of travel when she and her Daughter come (hopefully) by the end of the month.

1. Is company offering a "deal" on one way fares. I know usually it is not much less to fly RT.

2. Is there any discount for 10 yr old kid?

3. Since I will be buying the ticket here, I am concerned about the PAPER TICKET hassle, how to get it to her.

She is in ST pet and will Depart from there so there is not problem with her going to the airport to get the paper tickets before hand if needed.

Typically you will save money on 2-way fares, but check both.

2. Is there any discount for 10 yr old kid?

Nope. A seat is a seat no matter who is sitting in it.

3. Since I will be buying the ticket here, I am concerned about the PAPER TICKET hassle, how to get it to her.

FedEx or DHL. I would not trust the Russian postal service. Out of the 5 letters (not packages) I sent to my girl, 3 arrived.

Check airfare all the time. Be flexible with when she will fly and remember to check nearby airports. Driving for an hour or two may save you several hundred bucks. Maybe flying from Moscow may save some cash.

Also, calling the airline directly can possibly save you some cash. They may even offer a "mother-daughter" combo. Sometimes they have a "Kids fly free" promotion. (That's a stretch on an overseas flight, but it could be possible.)

Lastly, If you don't have one already, get an Airline Credit Card. (Delta SkyMiles Amex is the HEAT!!!!) They usually start you off with 10,000 or 15,000 bonus miles and when you go to buy her ticket, you could already have enough saved up to get a free ticket, a companion fare, or at minimum, an upgrade. If they have to fly into JFK or something like that then transfer to your airport, you could get the transfer for free. Plus, when you call the airline and have that SkyMiles number, they're alot friendlier and more helpful than most other customer service numbers.

When you buy her ticket, if you contact the airline directly, she'll be able to pick it up at either the airport or the local office in her city.

Of course I know the "advance purchase" is the best way to get a better price but, I think it best to wait until she has the visa or at least approved before I buy.

I think the window is 2 weeks, if you don't buy 2 weeks out, it gets really expensive.

I just recently purchased two one-way tickets from Russia to the U.S. for my fiancee and her daughter for a flight on February 29th. I used a website called www.smartertravel.com to purchase my tickets. My fiancee lives in Volgograd and in my searches on the internet for airfare I found that the cheapest flights were from Moscow to the U.S. I purchased two one-way tickets for a flight from Moscow to London to Toronto to DFW. The two tickets cost me $2,214.00 which included all taxes. I could have purchased some tickets that were a little bit cheaper but my fiancee did not want to fly on LOT (Polish) airlines. My fiancee and her daughter will travel from Volgograd to Moscow by train.

Nope. A seat is a seat no matter who is sitting in it.
Many airlines who do international flights will give you a discount if are between the ages of 2-11. Just play around with it on a site like travelocity to figure it out. If the child flies alone, then usually not. Children under 2 who sit on their lap usually for free. Some Russian airlines even offer youth fares for anyone under 25. Those deals usually cannot be ordered online.

Seems like everyone wants to route through NY.

NY has the worst (I think literally) flight delay/cancel rate.

Not only that but, they often require you to go from one Airport to another to get your connecting flight.... that would be out of the question. ( I did that myself last time returning home).

I see Delta has one stop round trip tickets from Moscow to DFW for the same price leaving on that date. I did something like that for my stepdaughter when she came to visit and just e-mailed her the paperless ticket and it worked fine.

I have never paid more than 800 dollars for a round-trip ticket to russia. I've flown back and forth several times from three different US cities. Every time i flew to a european hub and then switched to a flight to petersburg. I usually just book through expedia. If you check different dates you'd be surprised as some are significantly cheaper than others. If i had flown the day before on this trip, i would have paid 200 dollars more.

Yes, but when looking at most online sites it is more expensive to book a flight originating in Russia than one that originates in US.

And flights from Pete seem to be cheaper than Moscow, often by a couple hundred dollars or more. Hmmmm...how much trouble would I be in if I told her she needed to take a train to St. Pete and catch her flight there? :D

I thought flights origination from Moscow were cheaper, although I did a few checks and did not find much difference.

Natalia lives in St. Pet but would go to Moscow if it would help.

A guy who is moving to moscow told me a cheap one-way ticket can be bought from the delta window or office in moscow but that is the only way it can be bought.

Maybe it's seasonal. The last time I looked at ticket prices was in August.

Any idea how cheap?

My fiancee routed through JFK with no problems. (So did I on a separate trip.)

I will admit, it's a pain in the @$$, but it's not such a pain that I'd avoid it if it saved me several hundred $$$$$$.
