Legalizing Documents

My wife is Peruvian, and we are just starting our I-130 packet. I have all my information ready and I am just waiting for her half of the documentation. The problem is that in Peru to get something translated it needs to be legalized (notarized) then it can be translated. Most translators don't want to translate something unless its an official document. Also a birth certificate is only valid for six months, would she have to get a copy now, and possibly again when her interview comes up?

As a part of the I-130 package I am submitting a lot of supporting evidence, things like college transcripts and work contracts, obviously these should be translated, but should they also be notarized by the state? Or is a simple copy ok since it is just extra evidence?

I have been in contact with my local congressman's office and they have not been able to give me any solid advice on this one part, if anyone here has had some experience with documentation in Peru, I would appreciate advice. Thanks!

Christopher

As far as USCIS and the Consulates are concerned, birth certificates don't expire, no matter whether they carry an expiration date. Where, when and to whom you were born does not change.

I would limit the other documents you would submit. I'm not sure why you would need college transcripts or work contracts. Evidence of what? Passort stamps and visas prove you were together. If you have cohabitated, then perhaps some paperwork connected to your joint residence would be in order. How about joint bank accounts?

Hey, Christopher

I married a peruvian national as well. Our I-130 is currently in the NVC. I would recommend that you send in the required documents with the I-130. We submitted our marriage certificate, birthcertificates and so on. I would recommend that both certificates be legalized by RENIEC. I hope this helps.
