Dunno - I'd be rather surprised if there weren't a sociological reason for that - in much the same way that there are disparities, for example, in the way that certain ethnic neighbourhoods tend to have higher levels of crime.

I would submit to you that all neighborhoods have their fair share of criminals. Certain forms of crime have lower bars of entry than others, and those tend to show up in poorer neighborhoods. It also just so happens that the crime with lower bars of entry (for example, pickpocketing, mugging, etc.) are crimes that tend to occur in public view and thus impact quality of life in a very easily-observable way. Crime with higher bars of entry (for example, white collar crime, political corruption, etc.) isn't something you can "see" when you drive through a neighborhood and therefore those neighborhoods remain "pretty".

Well that's true of course, but you even mention wealth (or lack thereof) as one of the defining factors that creates the conditions for the types of crime (typically violent, against the person offences) that take place in those neighbourhoods. Its not the only factor of course, but I think it is an important one.

It can not be denied that white, male and southern has long been a winning combo in presidential politics.. from both parties. Carter and Clinton were Dems, in case anyone forgot.

Indeed.

I would like to hear another explanation of why John Edwards is the Democratic candidate Republicans say they would rather have as president while he is politically the most liberal.

Where are you getting this information? I'm a registered republican and I would prefer Obama over Edwards AND Clinton.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell
