A friend of mine recently applied for Student Visa at Bishkek US Embassy and was approved. Her classes were to be from mid January to mid March - planning on traveling 30 days before and returning in the prescribed 30 days afterwards- however when she received Visa it was made out for immediate departure in mid Nov with a late February expiration. She was very afraid to go back to Embassy and resubmitt her Passport so I assured her to come when she was ready in December and that I was sure the Unviversity could get her and appropriate extension.

Then in December she developed a bad kidney infection and was in hospital till recently. The earliest she can leave now is 1/15 therefore missing the first week of classes. It is an individualized course in Intensive English and the University has stated she can start as soon as she gets here.

Now a friend in US that is also from Bishkek has put fear of GOd into her that Immigration may not let her in if she is late and only has 30-465 days left on Visa. Does this sound possible or do they simply check that her arrival is within the open dates? She is getting both a letter from her Dr on why she is late and also the University that states she is welcome late- Should she be worried? Any suggestions?
