Lots of people are still out with the holidays/vacations, so (by default) I'm in charge of my (very small) department. My co-worker (night shifter) comes in moaning and groaning about a "sinus infection." He spends the next two hours complaining non-stop about how terrible he feels, complete with dramatic coughing, and how he's trying to get a doctor's appointment. I finally tell him, "Look, do you want to go home ? If so, I'll cover for you." He makes some feeble protestations about feeling guilty for having me work double-shift. I reassure him that if he's that sick, then he needs to go home. He then says "oh well ok" and takes off.

Shortly afterwards, another co-worker asks me why I'm doing his work. I tell him the guy went home sick. He says "Yeah, with a hangover. Check his Myspace page." Sure enough -- he's posted "Mood: "Hung over." Updated today.

What would you do ?

That's so annoying! I would be pissed. I basically gave up with believing in people about those kinds of things.

You should just tell him that since you covered for him that you would appreciate him covering for you one day.

LOL I printed a copy of his MySpace page. Maybe I should just circle the mood and write "####### ???" on it and leave it on his desk...

What a dumbass - everyone knows your MySpace/Facebook status has to match what you told your boss!

That said, when you have a bad hangover, IMO, you really are sick and shouldn't be at work, even if you did do it to yourself.

Tell him you know and that you'll be expecting him to cover one oor even two of your shifts. I think he'll find it was worth it.

I was going to say that, re sick and hangover. Mind you, he should have just told the truth and not made up some bullshit about sinus problems, that's the dishonest part of this tale imo.

Oh, if it was me, that's what I would tell him that I didn't appreciate his lying. I would cover for someone who as hungover if they asked though.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

LOL @ posting it on the net -- what a rookie mistake ! He's always doing silly stuff like that. Like the latest incident (before this one) when he tried to email an "anonymous" complaint letter to the editor of the local paper. He'd never noticed that his Yahoo account was set up to show his real name as the sender. Bingo -- printed in the paper bwahhahhahhhaaaa

I agree that a hangover makes you feel pretty sick, and might keep you from being able to work. But I don't appreciate being lied to like that, especially when I was taking pity on the guy.

But he WILL be making this up to me
