The CHEQUE thing seems archaic to me, but hey...when was the last time you could write a cheque when you ordered pizza and didn't have cash in Canada? That is kind of handy! Or maybe I could have, don't know.

People still do deposit slips here...cripes.....Canada Trust started doing that around when I was 16 so it's been awhile since I've even had to touch paper at the bank!!!

Mobile debit needs to catch on IMO. I like the drive up tellers at Wachovia though....It's like the freaking Jetsons.....take the tube, put your deposit or cheque in..talk to the guy, the tube gets sucked away to mystery land and then returns with cash...VOILA!

Ahh America...who knew all these weird little things

Do you actually SEE the guy at the window? The trend here where we live is to "see" the teller on a small screen...not very customer friendly to say the least of it. I haven't used a deposit slip in a while...direct deposit works just fine for me. :) I've been told I'm becoming too reliant on technology and that I'm going to pay for it one of these days in the form of bank fraud or identity theft. Not to mention that doing my banking this way is too "big brother".

Writing a cheque for a pizza I could probably handle. Waiting in line at the grocery store while some lady buys a grapefruit and some rolled oats and then writes a cheque for them drives me bonkers!

My bank asked me if I wanted specialty cheques with something cute on them and I told them I don't want cheques period. I refuse to use them when I have a debit card. :P

I have cheques, use them occasionally. No more, no less than I did in Canada. I haven't really noticed a difference between the use between the two countries. I prefer to do everything electronically.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

the last time we were at the grocery store we got stuck behind a lady who was writing a cheque... it took her forever

my hubby is the worst at picking a line at the grocery store :P

the only time I use a cheque is to pay the rent and the car insurance....
