if you want to go bowling get the ball stuck and go try and free it in the back room. it's ok if people see you a little bit that makes it more fun

No, screw that. Those pins would make me feel quite inadequate.

I'm the "immigrant" and I do find that a bit of depression has taken over and I'm not really up for doing a lot of things. My husband and I used to ski together, but I broke my leg a couple of years ago, and now I'm too scared.

We both like walking the dog, but I'm a "fair weather" walker, and on the west coast, there's no such thing as fair weather this time of year.

From Spring to Fall, we travel with our truck and trailer almost every weekend and we both love that. So, the season is going to start up shortly, and we're both looking forward to it.

Great post Marilyn! You got me searching for activities here in Austin

OP, You've got great input on this thread, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. But don't stress too much about it, chances are he'll feel a lot better once he is allowed to work.

Honestly, I'd try to find open-air markets that you two can go walk around. I don't know LA, but I love going to the French Market in New Orleans. I'm going to have so much fun when Lindsay gets here.

Sailing lessons (if you live near water).

Golf lessons.

Tennis lessons.

Skiing (if you live near mountains).

Jigsaw puzzles (always popular here).

Guest lectures at the University.

Reading the Sunday Paper.

Volunteer/Charity groups/fundraisers/etc.

Card games (I like bridge and poker)

Flying lessons (pricey, but still cheaper in the US than the rest of the world)

Gene and I are into serious geocaching! Geocaching is excellent for anyone...young and old and those that are disabled. Here's a link to a huge geocaching site. It would mean purchasing some units, you could share one if money was tight, and getting a used one is the best idea if you're not sure you're going to like it. It can be strenuous or not physically, you decide based on the caches you want to find. You can do it in hundreds of countries as well. Check it out!

a few months ago i moved from busy NYC to the significantly slower life of orange county, CA. (to say the least, ha!)

i'm having a difficult time coming up with ideas for things to do with my husband that we either haven't done 1000000x or he doesn't poo-poo. my husband was very active in his home country. he was always doing something whether it was school, football, swimming, boxing, etc. now that he is here i think he has a case of culture shock/depression. he also hurt his knee and cannot do any of the physical activities he is used to until after recovery. so combining depression and physical pain has made it pretty difficult. i have run out of ideas for activities we can share together!

what kinds of activities/hobbies do you share with your SO?

i'm tired of the conversation:

him: "what do you want to do today?"

me: "i don't know, how about we see a movie?"

him: "nahhhhhh"

me: "okay. how about ____?"

him: "nahhhhhh."

me: "i don't know either. so what do YOU want to do?"

him: "i don't know."

then the frustration begins. i really need :help: !

I think by looking at your timeline, part of it might be that he can't work yet? (sorry if I am wrong)

It can be hard for a man to not be able to work, and the waiting period can drag on. Again if I am wrong and he's already working then nevermind. :P

I think sometimes somene has to change a little in how much activities they do. I was more active before Suj moved here, but it also was because I wanted to pass the time while he wasn't here. He wasn't always going out doing fun things in India so we had to compromise on what we would do and how much we would do. Now with his job, he works an hour away and he gets tired so during the week we just relax at home at night. But that's what he really wants to do. On the weekends we don't always do a million things, we see friends and family and do small things, no big activities. But that's who we are too, some ppl are much more active constantly. But things do have to change sometimes after marriage, not drastically, but realistically.

And this might sound silly but there has to be a point where you are content just being together, when you are bored and can't think of anything to do, think about the time you had to be separated and talk about it. It will make you really happy again that you are together. And then even sitting on the couch watching TV can be fun again, because he's sitting there and not thousands of miles away.

As for the baby making suggestions, I don't think someone who is depressed really is into that. It's not the answer to all of life's problems.

1) Festivals are fun, but far better in the spring, summer, etc. Beer and Blues festival, garlic festival, other cooking festivals, music, arts, etc.

2) If someone like cooking and shopping, then look for a local weekly farmers market and go support them and get some great food and enjoy the bargaining.

3) Visit a new restaurant at least once a month

4) Pick up a hobby you can both share and learn together - playing an instrument, cooking new dishes, planting a garden, performing home improvements

5) If you are female, just surprise him at the door naked with his favorite drink and meal once in awhile

6) Get involved with local activities, such as a cooking class, dance class, exercise, and meet new people

7) Hold a dinner at your home and invite 1 or 2 couples and see if they reciprocate the gesture

8) Make sure you have been to every single local attraction at least once together, then expand outwards to locations within 1 hour, 2 hours, etc.

9) Treat them to an out of the blue single person event, such as a flying lesson, spa treatment, race car driving, or just call up a friend of theirs and ask that person to go hang out with them for a day. The problem with some couples is they spend 24/7 together and things feel stale - sometimes a little distance reminds us of why we cherish someone.

10) I'd put far more kinky and semi-perverted suggestions in here like others have, but I hope the clean suggestions above give you a few ideas.

Would the amalgamation of 5 and 7 result in one of your kinkier suggestions that you held back?

There are some great suggestions here, the OC has thousands of things to do. Try meetup.com as well.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
