I don't know about the rest of the country but the Curves in my area all are set up like a fish bowl so when you're walking past the Curves place you can see everyone working out. I would hate that! There's an all women's gym in the next town from me but I forget the name of it. It has a pool inside it I think which would be good exercise for a pregnant woman. I'm looking into a water aerobic program that is available at night. Most are like at 10am during the day so it's hard to find one for working people.

wow an indoor pool is such a great idea!! i think there is one here in bloomington; the masjid rent it out before for muslim females but i missed that event :(

www.curves.com - check it!!! :P

You may have to get a note from your physician if you do go to Curves being pregnant and all. Curves is cool. I just don't go to the one in my area because a nosy snot from the high school days owns it and I can't give my money to her. That sounds awful of me but that is the truth.

oh thank you sereia :D well my inlaws live there; i wish i was back there...it started snowing again here

Tasha- oh yes ofcourse i wont exercise now at all....but i will def. need it after delivery  insha Allah.

My doc suggested at least a mile walk a day. Now did I do it? NOooooooooooooooooooo....lol, I'm a lazy butt.

I'm still doing the slim fast diet but since the extreme measures have been taken it's no longer holding my hunger and I'm starving! Bleh. And I feel like I wake up and smell like slim fast. lolz. I probably sweat it out in my sleep. I'm still doing it though. I'm going to lose this weight this year darn it!

HLM---You should exercise lightly now. It's really so important for delivery. Walking of course is the best...and I'm telling you you will be sooo happy you did. Light arm lifts and leg lifts and walking are awesome. You don't need to use weights or anything. It keeps you very healthy for delivery. :luv:

Henna, I'm here. Not doing good though. I did finally go to the Y and join. I will be going tonight for the first time with a friend of mine. I need to get back on the diet wagon though. I fell off two weeks ago and never got back on. We have been so busy at home we had MCD's a few nights this week. I'm killing myself slowly......

Today's a new day and I will try my best!!!

So last weekend I was with my boss at a mall expo. The Ladies Workout Express booth was there offering $1 memberships if you signed up and monthly fee of $14.95. I cracked under peer pressure and signed up!

Last night was our first workout and o m g. We didn't know what we were doing so we just went around to different machines to check it all out. There is a row of treadmills, a row of ...well it looked like a treadmill but when I got on it (next to a skinny chick) I realized that this one simulates...running. :P So I jump up there, push Start and .........well, I lasted one minute and burned 2 calories. :D Skinny chick pretended not to notice I lasted one minute, as she kept her fast pace of jogging.

We stayed 45 minutes and will go again I think tommorrow. My question to all of you that do exercise,,,how often? Weight machines or treadmill or a combination of both? What do you do after you get out of the car?

Henna YOU GO GIRL!!! That is so funny, for a class to have that name. When I was teaching we had all kind of catchy names for our classes.

I miss doing classes. I really liked our dance aerobics. It was choreographed and we learned 7 dances to 7 songs in 7 weeks.

Well Tasha. I talked to my hubby last night, and even though I am not thrilled about the Y, we both have to do something.

So I am going to look into a membership here as well. It is better than nothing and the cheapest. I miss my LA FITNESS but it is the first time in

15 years that I am having to purchase a gym membership. I have always worked the gym so it came free.

Nawal...I love the new pix of the babies...I think your daughter looks like hubby and your son like you?

I cant motivate myself outside the gym, I have to have all the equipment and atmosphere so we are going for it!

Jackie, as a trainer (and a lazy one at that! ) You should do a combination of the 2. The first thing you want to do is get moving and watch what and how much you eat. You can do your cardio before or after weights, whichever you prefer. I prefer before cuz that way I am all warmed up. Plus after doing a strength training routine, I rarely have the motivation or energy to do 20-40 mins of cardio. BUT the best is interval training where you do 3-5 mins of cardio 3-5 mins of strength.

I mean it isn't rocket science and you can surely do 10 mins and 10 mins too if you like. Alternating which form of cardio you do, like 10mins each stationary bike, treadmill and eliptical. 10 mins rowing, 10 mins stairclimbing or 10mins of crosstrainer. A total of 30 mins. Remember to do something you like. And when just starting out, work yourself up to 30-45 mins at least 3-5 days a week. Also, vary your rate of intensity and speed to keep the interval training, which really gets the juices flowing.

Strength training is so important for the ladies too, to keep our bone density and muscular tone, which as you know will start to deteriorate after having babies and more progressively after age 30. You can do your execises 3 sets of 12- 15 reps. Also, you can do all your sets on one machine before moving to the next or do a circuit where you do one set of say tricep dips, one set chest press and one set of shoulder raises. I think circuit/interval trainer works best, it keeps you moving and it helps prevent boredom.

I know we all want to look good but it will take time. First you will feel good and have more energy. It is so good for your mood once you get the endorphins going  The strength training should be for all your body, not just specific parts, so that you will be well balanced.

Certainly don't forget to stretch. people really do neglect this aspect of fitness and underestimate it's benefits. It is so crucial to help prevent injuries, it increases flexibility and decreases alot of common aches and pains. If all I did was stretch, I would feel alot longer, leaner and stronger. It makes a tremendous difference plus it just helps to relax you mentally. A good stretch should take you no less than 15-20 mins, all over body and holding each stretch a minium of 30 secs as long as one minute. This is a great way to end your work out and rejuevinate you and your body!

Ok, I am ready to go now :P
