I think a lot of people say they are Christians, but they do not live their lives as Christians, or live it as Christians when they are in the church. This is what has given a lot of people a bad taste. If you say you are a Christian, you need to act it.

Makes for an interesting question:

When you hear the word Christian, what do you immediately think of? I remember in college being asked to name the first word that came to your mind when hearing another word. I wonder what the general perception is about the word Christian.

Now see...this needs to be a totally different thead lest I get in trouble

Hmmm....good point. Please disregard previous post.

I already made my post, and my views, clearly and I think with fairness and without prejudice - however the question some are raising, and even arguing over, that the OP SOLEY wanted a 'yes I am or No Im not response' begs the question that if that IS the case then surely a simple poll with a yes or no option would have been less fraught.

Putting it in a DISCUSSION thread ensures it will be 'discussed'.

If thats not what was required then a poll is the answer - simple.

Now on to world peace

And I agree. However I think a lot of people eyes needs to be opened. How can I person say "YES I AM A CHRISTIAN" and then go curse at someone? ANYONE can say they are a Christian and ANYONE can say they are not. I just think a lot of the posters here are trying to explain how a lot of so-called "Christians" has hurt them. I am 100% for following God. I am just trying to tell people that if you say you are a Christian, or any other follower of God, let it show. :D

I personally refound my faith last June. I had been not attending Church, not praying and had really let religion leave my life. Last summer, I felt the need to return to church. My husband has never really been into going to church or praying, either--though we both believed in Father, Son and Holy Spirit with all of our hearts. Believing was enough for us for that time in our life. We have now began to practice. Attending Mass, getting involved with the church community etc and we have begun to pray before meals and other times of the day. It is still strange for us to pray together. New I guess. We bow our heads and pray in silence before meals. We both want to teach our children how to pray and that has to come from our example.

dont forget to teach your kids that you don't have a problem with racial profiling either and the benefits of being prejudiced with minorities 'just in case'.. pff.. yes.. very christian indeed...

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Christians are humans striving for what they consider the right way to live. Like everyone, they have faults and prejudices. It does not make them un-Christian so long as they hold the core beliefs.

it doesn't make them un-christian.. but it is hipocrisy to preach how good a christian u are and how much u pray when u are full of prejudices... and.. isn't a core belief to not have prejudices?

"Let it shiiineee...." and umm..."World Peace, y'all". Since this isn't s'posed to be a religious debate thread, I shant get involved, other than to say "peace and goodwill to all mankind" and "adios!" :D

I just want to answer one question on James' post:

If there was a post asking how many people owned red shoes, would you post in there and say 'not.......'? I doubt it. There wouldnt be any arguments stirred up in that scenario so what would be the point.

My answer: I don't.....

Hey everyone. I am the one that started this thread. I by no means meant to start a huge debate on religion in itself. Personally I don't believe christianity is really a religion anyways, it is a relationship. I was just curious how many of us VJers were christians and thought maybe we could start a thread and just hear about how God has really changed their lives and share with one another. Not in a negative way but just be supporters of one another. That is all :o) No hard feelings.

I want to thank everyone for replying though, i haven't been able to get back and looks like there was a huge response! I just wanted to know who my fellow brothers and sisters in christ were on here and just maybe share how God has gotten us all through this experience and make this thread into an uplifting postive thing.
