My husband submitted the application I485 for me, after 1 yr of our marriage. It has been been about a yr since the application and we hvnt been notified of the interview. I dont have a social security no. Therefore, I cannot work or take my driving license. My passport has now expired since i hv been in the US for more than 2 yrs. So has my I194 and visa. I plan to go to college in Jan 2008 and will hv to pay $200+ a unit instead of $20 as a resident. How do I get a SSN and take my driving licence? Please advise.

From the information you've provided I don't believe you can get a SSN at this time. But you likely would qualify for resident fees in CA if it has been a year since you applied for AOS. The policies seem to vary from one college/university to the next, but the most strict I've seen will accept your filing date as the start of your CA residency. Assuming of course that you meet the other requirements of residency.

Did you apply for EAD? If so, and if it is/was issued, that would open other options too.
