United Airlines shipping question

Does anyone know if United allows people to ship PC Desktops? .... like would they allow me to just throw it in one of my suitcases and take it with me? i built my baby from the ground up and would hate to just leave it here when i move.. I really want to bring it with me. I suppose i could just call them ask, but i decided to try here first.

I believe so, yes. Essentially it is the same as a large laptop - as long as it is within the weight limits. I've read many people who have do so will remove video/sound cards (and other 'slotted' devices) and some other items (wrapping them) to avoid damage from movement/vibration during the flight (and handling).

I didnt see anything that even remotely prohibiting bring the tower with you in your checked baggage. Although I would expect TSA to want to crack open the bag once they see the contents on the scan. Make sure your luggage has TSA locks so they dont cut them off in case of inspection. And here's the link for United's checked baggage policy, cuz you may go over the weight limit with the tower in your suitcase. Good luck with it. I couldnt bear to leave mine behind either. I've actually done it going cross country twice on UA. No problem. I built my own too. I hand carried my cpu heatsink (big fan), hard drives and video cards (2). My computer works fine. I used bubble wrap and styrofoam.

Might be affordable to UPS it... And I'd trust UPS before I'd trust the airline to not destroy it. That's just me though. My fiancée had a couple HORRIBLE experiences and I don't trust airlines...

yah i was thinking about that too.. just USP/Purolator my comp.. and bring my other junk with me instead... Ive had bad experiences with luggage being shipped too.. my suitcases have been smashed lol

I just did an online quote from both UPS and Canada Post and they both gave me 80 bucks. lol.. but i think spending the extra 30 bucks (its normally only 50 bucks if you go over weight on luggage if i shipped it on the plane with me) to have it arrive safely

Completely out of the question.. Ive been saving up to move down for a while now, so instead of investing in a beater car to get me from A to B, i decided to bike + walk to work and it would be 17-20 hr drive for her through most of Wintery Canada highways if she came up to drive my ####### down and i dont want her to experience that for the first time not knowing how bad it is lol

okay. so last night before i went to bed, i went online and got quotes from all the places i knew of that shipped heres what i got:

UPS = Around 81 dollars

Canada Post = 83 Dollars

Purolator 85 dollars

DHL = 115 dollars

Airline Overweight charge = 50 dollars

Airline extra baggage = 80 dollars

Im torn between shipping it UPS or airline overweight charge. airlines = bad handling (not sure about UPS's handling though... and purolator is bad too, i know because i worked there before lol)

I would go with UPS or even FEDEX. Who knows what will happen out of your eye sight. Once it gets to Screening it may just grow legs and run away from you. or something will run away from you.

Better go with UPS.

also worked in the aviation area, the bag smashers don't care what is in it so they just toss it around like a stuff toy..

1. DHL

2. UPS

3. FedEx

4. Purolator

5. USPS

Ive never dealt with DHL before, but i think im going to go with UPS to ship my computer. thanks everyone for their input
