"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Just what part of that article provokes the type of emotonal response that a few here have made? I just don't get this emotional connection to governmental policies as if they represent America.

I don't get it either. The article is about how one action could set off a whole chain of events; it's not claiming that "THIS is exactly how it must play out." The author does take into consideration the particulars of regional politics, and the volatility that already exists.

Who would have predicted the events that led to World War I or World War II, or could have predicted how it would all end ? (Well, unless you're one of those people who believes these sorts of events are all pre-planned by some shadowy entity pulling strings behind the scenes for some nefarious purpose.... )

Anyway, the article is about considering what could happen..... might not be like that. Or it might turn out even worse....

Some people like to gamble high stakes (even when it's not just their own stakes at risk.) Americans are already starting to pay the price for the Iraqi gamble, and probably will be for generations.

I think the reaction had less to do with the content than the poster. Is the notion that a war with Iran would be bad thing such an extreme idea?

WHATTTTTTT ??????? Someone here doesn't like me ????????????????

Don't take it personal. Labels get thrown around here like rotten fruit. If you're a Republican who complains about welfare, it's because 'government' (notice generic term) is bad. If you're a Democrat complaining about foreign policy it must mean you harbor some anti-American sentiment. It's the Michael Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, style of political arguing....if I don't like you, I just discredit you by throwing a few labels your way to silence your thought provoking argument because, God knows, we can't be having a bunch of people actually thinking. ;)

Paranoia and depression what a nasty combo.

I think if Iran keeps going down the path that they are on, Some form of warfare against them will be necessary at some point. I don't feel that will be a bad thing.

I think there's a bit of scaremongering going on here. The guy may be a former CIA officer, but he sounds like he's trying to pitch an "in the tradition" Tom Clancy novel. He has a pretty theatrical interpretation of international politics - the whole scenario seems pretty unlikely IMO.

I think the timing is a little off too - 2 or 3 years ago, he might have had a point - but I think the neocons (that small hardcore of Republicans) have outworn their welcome with 7 years of expensive military action in the middle-east. Short of another 9/11-type scenario occurring in the next few months - I'd say their voice in the next election will be a small one.

You mean labels like "racist, capitalist pig, bigot, homophobe, flat earther, Jesus freak, global warming denier, etc..." I think these terms were being thrown out since I was a child long before Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity were on the scene. Micheal Savage don't count he is a freak! We finally stand up after being beat down for 40 years and then we are accused of discrediting our opponents by attacks. That has been the tactic of the left for my 41 years of life.

If more people think then left loses because all your arguments are all emotional and not intellectual!

Indeed - when people start quoting Talk Radio commentators as authoritative sources they lose all credibility IMO.

If you are correct then the next war will be an all out conflagration. Be ready it will come in about 10 years if we don't stop the militant Islamic terrorists now!

But you may be a big fan of Neville Chamberlain

Labels have been thrown around by all sides of every ideological argument...no doubt about it. However, I think you're doing yourself a disservice to dismiss any argument presented by anyone you label as left or liberal because ideologues can never be right all the time and not every political argument can fit so neatly within a specific ideology.

For example, Ron Paul is very much a fiscal conservative and very much anti-war. Bush is big on government and spends our tax money like a drunken sailor. When you lift the veil of labels you find that issues don't also divide into two distinct viewpoints and most Americans don't think along some rigid ideological view.

Have you listened to Air America lately? It is all emotion.

By the way Number 6 what are your core principles and values that you live by. What are your truths? What are your 3 or 4 guiding principles in choosing a leader that matches your Priciples?
