Going through US Immigration in Dublin

Ok so I am *finally* going to book my flights to the US for Feb and I will be going through Dublin (yay for Ryanair!). I just wondered if there was anything specific I had to do to go through immigration in Dublin - is it automatic? Or do I have to ask specifically to do it?

I'm just trying to figure out how it all works really - I know that I can do it, I just don't know the finer details etc. As I have NOA2 now I will obviously be bringing relevant paperwork just to be on the safe side but I am still a little hazy on some of the finer points of how it actually works!!

Any advice welcome!!

You don't have to do anything special to go through immigration in Dublin; it'll be automatic. You have to go through it to board the US flights.

In effect, once you pass through Customs and Immigration in Dublin, the US considers you to have entered the US. The plane then can land at a domestic terminal instead of International and any connections are as fast as they would be between two US cities. That's the whole point of having US Customs and Immigration stations in other countries. I always greatly appreciated the program when I flew in and out of Ottawa with connections in Chicago.

Thank you!! I thought it was cheap to get to Ontario, CA!! Can't get direct flights anywhere so it makes for a longer trip but just want to fly across the Atlantic without stressing about Immigration!!

You'll get more sleep on the plane that way!

I found that going through in Dublin was much nicer than any time I've been through in the US. The people in the US are very good, but the people in Dublin were just lovely!

It's probably cheaper to fly to LAX (Los Angeles) and have your fiance drive a couple hours to pick you up.
