How to call London Embassy

hi guys! does anyone have the number to call the london embassy visa unit and exactly how much does it cost to call??? I know we call it the extortion line, how bad is it?? We overnighted our packet 3 and the post confirmed delivery but DOS still does not show the paperwork in the system over a week later. I want to call to check in our forms and status. thanks for any help!

It's not uncommon that a packet returned to the London Embassy, even with delivery confirmation, hasn't been entered into the system immediately. In our case, it took about 2 weeks (or more? can't quite remember) from the confirmed delivery of packet 3 until it was entered into the system. Think of it this way: the packet gets there, and then gets put into a pile for entry into the system. The wait could be any length of time, depending on staff availability or the sheer number of packets to enter. It's also the holiday season -- more days closed, more people off. It'll get there, just be patient! (I know you must be sick of hearing that... )

The extortion line will not have any more info on this than the DOS, so save your quids -- it's 1.20/min, and the number is 09042-450100. I called them a few times begging for the same kind of info you're after, and I never found out anything more from them than a quick call to the DOS a minute or two later could have told me. If anything, the DOS people are friendlier and more up to speed with the process! Give the DOS a call next week, after the New Year. I bet you'll soon have a nice New Year's surprise!

If it's any help my Packet 3 was received at the Embassy on 7th December but didn't get put into the system until 12th December so try not to worry.

And I agree with elmcitymaven that they can't give you any more info than DOS can. The extortion line just goes to a call centre in Scotland who just read exactly what DOS can see off their computer screens.

they don't help you anyways but still charge you money I think it's like 1 pound a minute or is it 3? lol I don't remember

When I sent my packet 3 in DOS kept just saying that I dont have a date yet.

Finally I phoned the extortion line - 09042-450100 at £1.20 a minute. They told me that my details were not entered in the system and should of been within 30 days, it was over the 30 days. They gave me a code to email them with, I got packet 4 and an interview date 5 days later. To me it was worth phoning them.
