Drinking lots of water and staying physically active are often enough to move a stone out of the body. Perhaps she unconciously cut back her drinking of water because the frequency of urination with pregnancy?

That could be true. Once she found out she was pregnant the doctor asked her to limit her physical activity due to her previous miscarriages. She has been drinking more water since she got diagnosed on Christmas Eve.

Mister Fancypants beat me to that exact response, since a lot of women tend to do that. And restricted physical activity is one of the reasons the risk is greater with pregnant women.

I know citric beverages like lemonade and orange juice can help prevent kidney stones, but don't think it does anything about ones that have already formed.

As others have mentioned, make sure she drinks LOTS of water. LOTS....

My heart goes out to her. I haven't been through that personally, but have seen others. It's excruciating. Hopefully it passes quickly, without complication!

Does anyone know of some natural remedies for kidney stones? My cousin is 5 months pregnant and has a very painful kidney stone. Since she is pregnant they can't break it apart with a laser so that it will pass, so they gave her a cathetar to help it pass naturally.

I have heard that there are some combinations of foods/drinks and such that you can take to help it pass naturally faster. Has anyone here heard of any?

I am no expert, but I just went through the same thing. I found out in Sept. 2006 that I had a stone in my kidney through a ultra sound during a prenatal visit at the doctors. There is nothing she can do except take what ever meds the doctor gives her with plenty of water. After giving birth to my daughter in Feb. 2007 I went through 3 surgeries. 1. they went into my back with a scope and broke it, then 2&3 was litho. The doctor informed me to continue my meds and drink plenty of water. when the stones are gone to drink plenty of water and 10 oz of cocktail cranberry juice aday to keep them from forming. he also says there is no home remedy to help them pass once there there.
