Last time ,I am trying to buy a cel. phone but the mobile company disapproved my application because I still have no credit history.,...and it really embarrased me. :( Then the next day, I try to applied for a credit card by the internet searching "credit card for no credit"..and lucky there are some credit company who offers credit card for those who wants to build a credit history and the first credit card that approved me is the "capital one" they gave me a $ 300 offer to start :) then try another one which is Visa platinum by credit one and I was approved by $ 200 . Anyway, even it is on low start cash credit limit I believe this would start my credit history if I will pay on time :D I also tried to applied for a retail credit card but they were all in verification case of 30 days. I hope this experienced will help you guys. By the way, I am still looking for a job and upon filling up the application at work field information, I declared that I am a Home maker and just put my spouse salary income on total hosehold income...goodluck 2 all :luv:

As well as the US, Experian has operations in most European countries, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, China, Japan and Australia. Also in Canada

Equifax is in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

TransUnion operates in 24 countries.

FICO score uses all three of the above. I had credit scores from all three in Canada yet nothing in the US. Basically what I'm saying is that your credit score should be able to be transfered from one country to another but it doesn't.

But in Canada they go off of your SIN number and in the states they go off your SSN. There is no way it can be transferred. Besides, it's two different countries. One has no right to access your credit rating in the other. Honestly, I'm glad about that.

Question for anyone: can you be arrested when you return to your home country if you haven't (weren't able to) pay your bill?

Answer to my own question: No. You can't.

You can't be arrested for being a debtor, however, if you obtained goods/services/money KNOWING you could not pay, then that is obtaining by criminal deception (the deception being that you could pay), and you can and should be arrested and tazered and have the police dog bite you accidentally..

Sometimes its a fine line, sometimes its easy to prove...

I believe it is $29 annual fee. I had to put $99 for $500 credit limit. You can move on to better cards in 1-2 years or convert the card to non AF other card.

Just wanted add.. once I got my first credit card (from Navy Federal who is generous with giving out credit cards I should add).. I got all KINDS of offers from Capitol one.. ALL with one time fees and yearly fees. I called the 1-800 number and said.. can you give me this card without fees? (Cause I REFUSE to pay money for a credit card), and the lady said.. absolutely no.. so I said.. then I'm not interested..

Coincidently (or not) the next week I got a Capital One Credit Card offer with no fees at all.. and I of course accepted that one.. it pays to tell them what you want and hold out for what you want.. don't let them rip you off...

Now whenever I get credit card offers (1-2 times a week) i read the T&C and if it has fees AT ALL - i shred it.. Just cause I'm new here in the country doesn't give them the licence to rip me off!

I get Chase offers 'pre -approved' - three times last week..

You read the asterisk and the small print says - 'by saying you are pre-approved does not mean you will be accepted'

If you apply, they will say no and it knocks points off your credit rating..

I know - I did it 3 years ago... never ever believe pre-approved.

I asked for no annual fee as i was depositing 20k in their money market and the guy said - 'well ok'

I sent a letter of complaint to the CEO personally about GM refusing me and 2 months later a GM card arrived !

Funny.. both pre-approved cards I applied for were genuinely pre-approved.. Navy Federal and Capital One both sent me pre-approvals and they were genuine.. :)

Funny.. both pre-approved cards I applied for were genuinely pre-approved.. Navy Federal and Capital One both sent me pre-approvals and they were genuine.. :)

I applied for a capital one credit card for 'people with no credit'

I showed them bank accounts with a million dollars in them and UK credit cards with £30,000 limits and pensions in payment guaranteed 100% by the UK government - - I then asked for a 500 dollar credit limit card - and they refused and I got a minus credit rating out of it

I don't need a card for credit - i need it for plane tickets and rental cars and hotels etc etc

and I don't trust debit cards

I get a nasty rash every time I come across capital one's name online....

Anyway, I am all set up now so they can get lost - I hope they got a big chunk of the sub-prime and didn't sell it on to the UK banks

Credit card issuers company - they are not your friend. Amex, Capital One, Chase, Citibank, etc - they are out there to make money.

I sometimes go to creditboards & there are no shortage of Amex haters, Capital One haters, Citibank haters, Chase haters etc (apology if "haters" is too strong of words). So, it is personal preference based on your personal needs.

Try to stay off credit card that requires all possible fees in the world - those fees eats up the credit limit even before you use it.

yes it wont be a transfer and you will need to apply again but i reckon it will get you a new US one - covering letter required

The banks are stupid really coz they hand em out like confetti to americans with no money and refuse them to immigrants who can prove they have money and income - there is no clever reason as they make money whether you pay the card off every month or not - its just dullard stupidity and their only chance to get a new account as we will be faithful to the ones who do risk 500 dollars on us....

called my new bank in california yesterday and asked a question - slowly and clearly - and they said

'uh yeah suh - so what am you er-axing me now ?' it was the sleeping pill sedated uscis voice (instant flashbacks).

jeez

it does not inspire confidence as i sent em a sizeable check (cheque)...

it took 4 days of every day phone calls to get online access - really screwy systems

Yeah - I avoid cards with fees and pay off in full when I use them - it is normally to tide me over if I am short but know I can afford to pay the full balance when it is due :) Am so not into credit but unfortunately to get a mortgage...

I have ordered a Secured Credit card from Bank of America to start building some credit history. Hopefully it won't take too long.

I bet that cost you - annual fee ? admin fee ? set up fee ?

monthly account holding charge ?

I would be amazed if it was totally free like my fifth third bank card

You may need to wait a month before you know the full extent of it..

alan

There is a $29 annual fee. When I build up a bit of credit history I will look around for a better deal but my husband's bank is LaSalle who recently merged with Bank of America so I was just being lazy by using them.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment

you can often ask em to take the fee off - its worth a try and they can only say no

its the monthly fees(not interest) that some of em charge that i don't like - that is just taking advantage of people

my wife gets really embarrassed when i say stuff like - 'ok will you do me a favour and drop the annual charge '- but most times it works - she would rather pay it than ask...

the meek might inherit the earth but its only 6 foot of it usually
