I've seen it before. Cree-py.

No, of course I don't. How strange.

Phew. For a second there I felt like I was in a loonie bin surrounded by gibbering cretins smacking their heads against the wall.

(No offense.)

lol. everyone else was just being more polite. I'm sure there are more "of us" here.

TBH, I find praying over food to be a symptom of one of the most confusing parts of Christian quotidian life: always thanking God. #######, who is this god that is so petty that he's obsessed with being acknowledged? It's the same guy that doesn't care what you do in your life as long as you repent at the end (aka, "love God" and believe in him). Sounds a little needy for an almighty being.

I think it's kinda creepy too. And weird. And.....primitive.

Why? What good does "blessing" food do? Who and what are you thanking? What does a minor mythological figure from the Middle East have to do with eating a steak in Brooklyn?

If I "thank" anyone before I eat, it'll be the following:

a) myself or Mags for earning the money to purchase the food.

2) The food itself for conveniently dying so that I can eat it.

#) The chef/cook who prepared the food.

This is 2007 (almost 2008). We now know that plants grow for biological reasons, not magickal hocus-pocus reasons. ie: There ain't no god in photosynthesis. Likewise, if animals eat, they grow. When they've grown enough, people kill them so they can eat them. No god in that, either. "God" never gave me sh!t. I've earned - one way or another - everything I've ever received.

I'll thank Mags for preparing a great meal; that's as close to praying as THIS platy will ever get.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

There is a couple that comes in here quite often that stops and prays before they eat their food. Usually in my family we only say the blessing if there is a large group of us together eating or if my grandparents are eating with us. This is the first time I've seen people doing it in a restaurant and was curious is there is others that do it as well.

Hi! i just wanna share my views about your concern. IN my part, me and my filipina partner do the same thing.Even only me and her eating in a restaurant in as long as we will eat,we pray first.I learn a lot from her and i am thankful coz now i realized that if we put GOd in the center of our lives, many things are possible..And I think it is great to do it coz all that we have is GOds blessing.Have a nice day!

80% of the time I pray before my meal, but perhaps the other 20% I forget or I am so hungry that I just dig in! I do the silent prayer thing and I am not ostentatious about it. It's just a bowed head, a quick prayer and boom done :)
