He only has access to a computer when he's in a cafe which he has to pay for so that's a possibility but a very inconvenient one at best. Strange that the verizon site says that it's compatible with vodafone egypt but the other link someone gave on here doesn't list them at all. I haven't cancelled cingular yet but I really don't want to keep two phone contracts going so I guess I'll just have to deal with not getting texts from him until he gets here. :(

from any e-mail account the nomenclature i believe is [cell number]@vtext.com.

For cell number 555-555-5555 then 5555555555@vtext.com

YMMV

I have been using cingular-att the whole time I have known my husband and no problems to speak of. I switched to verizon wireless and ever since then 1) when I call it comes up as private instead of as bridget on his phone, 2) he texts and calls me but I receive nothing.

I called verizon wireless and they said nothing is wrong on my end, though I tend to doubt that. I was pissed off beyond belief when I first switched 'cause I was unable to call him at all. I called them and they said I had to wait three months and THEN and ONLY then could I sign up for international service. I pitched a b!tch fest and then they did it right there and then.

Does anyone else not get messages and calls like me? I think the service he uses is vodaphone. They're closed today so he can't call them but this SUCKS.

I just switched from Cin / ATT because the same situation was occuring, but with Lebanon instead of Egypt. I now have a company called "MetroPCS" and i can call him directly from my phone without having to buy a calling card and only pay 0.17 for land lines and 0.29 for calling his cell. I have a friend who had verizon and she said they're a joke. Half of the time she couldnt call or receive text from Africa.

Okay, I happen to work for Verizon wireless.... but the usual legal disclaimer about it being my opinion only applies, blah blah......

First, Verizon Wirless will not be on that GSM page, because Verizon Wireless isn't a GSM network, it is a CDMA network....

Verizon Wireless is partially owned by Vodafone, so there is going to be an agreement. HOWEVER, that being said:

per the verizon wireless website: http://mobileoptions.vzw.com/international...ries/Egypt.html

Texting is only partnered w/ Vodafone.

If there is a problem, and your texts are reaching him, then the problem is on the other end...

This is because every country code and area code must be programmed into the text server. If yours are getting to him, then your service is programmed correctly - there isnt any special programming to RECEIVE international text. If his aren't going, then his carrier does not have your country/area code programmed correctly into their text server.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks! Unfortunately it must be a different issue though because for the past year and a half or so he has been able to text/call me no problem while I was with ATT/Cingular and my number is a speeddial number on his phone and hasn't changed. I ported my number over to verizon wireless so it should be exactly the same. He's contacting vodafone tomorrow so hopefully he can straighten it out then. Just sucks that I can't hear from him on our anniversary. :( I can call him of course but it's not the same as receiving lil kisses via his phone.

I hated Verizon. I have cingular and I get his texts 95%of the time. Once in a while he will say he sent one and I never get them or they come way late. However, I cannot reply to his. I have to close his and do a new message and manually put his number in and send my replies. He gets 97 % this way. If I just hit reply and send my reply he gets about 10 % or less. Try it this way maybe it will help you.

Okay, then I am completely stumped... I have a few guesses, but I don't know for sure.... either way, I can imagine how frustrating it must be... My hubby and I lived on texting while we were waiting on him to get here.

One more thing to add, if he is sending you smileys and graphics that will not come through those messages will fail. Only text up to 160 characters will come through. Things will def move faster if he opens a ticket with his carrier first and also have him send off a few test text to you so they can look for the failures/errors if there are any visible.

Actually this is the only flaw so far with me and Verizon wireless. I love that all of my kids' friends have verizon wireless so I don't have to worry about minutes going overboard and their dad and his family have it too which is totally cool moneywise. Also the number of dropped calls has gone to 0 so far!! With Cingular I had dropped calls, at least two a day and so far none with verizon.....which is kinda funny given that their main commercial for Cingular involves the dropped call adds. I also love the phones that came with it.

I've had Verizon for a long time.

It used to be that I could send my hubby texts, but he couldn't text me. Then he switched phone companies and he could text me but couldn't get my texts.

It's a good idea about sending the texts from the computer, except as you mention he has to pay for computer access.

It appears that it depends, with Verizon, upon which cell company he uses, as to whether you two can text or not.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

So what did you decide to do? Seems like either way one of you isn't getting the other's texts.

Maybe you can cancel Verizon until he gets here. I had a month to decide if I wanted to keep Verizon so since I had not cancelled Cingular/ATT yet, I just cancelled Verizon. We thought we'd try out other services once he got here, but so far Cinuglar is the cheapest with what all we need.

We're just leaving it as is. It's the latest phone company that opened up in Egypt that he switched to, and at which he can't get my text messages. So, I just get them from him and it's okay. It costs more to send then receive international texts anyways on Verizon. Plus, I have a calling card and I call him for a couple of minutes every day at lunch. Hearing his voice is much nicer than being able to text! :luv:
