verizon wireless and egypt

I have been using cingular-att the whole time I have known my husband and no problems to speak of. I switched to verizon wireless and ever since then 1) when I call it comes up as private instead of as bridget on his phone, 2) he texts and calls me but I receive nothing.

I called verizon wireless and they said nothing is wrong on my end, though I tend to doubt that. I was pissed off beyond belief when I first switched 'cause I was unable to call him at all. I called them and they said I had to wait three months and THEN and ONLY then could I sign up for international service. I pitched a b!tch fest and then they did it right there and then.

Does anyone else not get messages and calls like me? I think the service he uses is vodaphone. They're closed today so he can't call them but this SUCKS.

I've always had Verizon and text messages were unreliable at best to Morocco.

I plan on sticking with them now though since they just added a 20% discount where I work.

I have US Cellular...I cant text him, he got a new phone and since then I never receive any of his texts...I call using paytone - about 13 cents a minute or so.... so my calls come up private anyways.....and w/the connections depending on where he is...many times I cant get him...period.....good luck!!

It all depends on the service that you have and whether it is compatible with the service provider he has.

I had the same problem with sending and receiving texts from my parents (Saudi Arabia) and my fiance (Ghana). They received mine, I could not receive theirs and when I called or they called all I got was "Unknown" or "Private" on my caller ID and same for them. I specifically switched to ATT so that I could send and receive texts.

You can check out this GSM website to see if your plans are compatible.

BTW: I took a quick scan of the US providers and I do not see Verizon anywhere on the list.

I used both US Cellular and Cingular when my husband was still in Egypt. I did switch to T-Mobile once and had to swtich back because every he'd call me (he would call me, hang up and I'd call him back since it was cheaper) it would take away from his minutes. Then I swtiched to Verizon for a whole 4 days then found out he couldn't text me at all. We just stuck with Cingular though. It's the only company we haven't had a problem with around this area.

I used Sprint (still do). I'm not sure what Ramy had in Egypt, most likely vodaphone. He could always receive my texts but I could never receive his. Connections were always terrible!!!

Hi i just happened to see this forum topic and thought i could help a bit. To see what carriers that vzw has a two way agreement with for text messaging check on this link here

https://text1.vzw.com/text/jsp/txtintl_viewall.jsp if its not there you MAY be able to send to that person but you

will not be able to receive. The list changes often so its good to check back periodically to see who they have agreements with

I have always had verizon but we both always just bought phone cards if we needed to reach eachother on our cell phones. Otherwise we used skype or Hicham could text me from msn messenger and I could respond on my cell.

VODAFONE egypt is the only carrier VZW has a two way sms agreement with at this time.

I used T-Mobile and we did the same thing with him calling me and hanging up so I could call him back. Never took his minutes though...

I never had any problems with the connection, but I used a phone card. I found one for cell phones that is slightly more expensive than the cheapest, but always good connnection, never any problems (well, except for during Eid) and my number showed up on his caller ID. AirTel Direct  Saves the PIN too so if you call from your cell you don't ever have to enter a PIN. I paid the extra 3-5 cents for the worry free part

Hey, bridget. I used to have Verizon in the states. I used to just use Yahoo Messenger on my phone to send & receive messages so that I wouldn't get charged $0.25 for every international message. He also used to use verizonwireless.com to send me messages from their website.

The catch is that he has to have access to the computer & he can't send them directly from his phone. But, both of those methods will just use your messages that are included in your plan. I used to have 500 messages per month, I think, and it was always enough.

Good luck figuring out a plan.
