How accurate does this information have to be? I mean can we give ball park figures? I do not know how much they actually research on the person before approving. The reason I ask is because my husband does not remember his exact dates of school and I cannot be sure he knows his parents dates of birth or where they were born. They don't celebrate birthdays over there so no one cares when they were born:) Thanks

We had the same problem on our DS-230. My husband's parents don't know their birthdates either. We wrote in what was on their id cards (year of birth only). He wasn't sure about the years for school, too. We put in his best info and attached an addendum to the form explaining the omissions an approximations. I haven't gotten a RFE on it yet, so it seems to have worked.

Good idea to add extra paperwork for the omissions. It is a huge fuss with habibi and I over addresses. Here are addresses are lined perfectly. In palestine, in much of the places it has only been in the last few years they have gotten street names! So it is a big fight when I ask him to repeat his address and he has to remind me of his famous quote "This is not America":) I think I will add to my form an explanation of addresses because you can never be sure if those consular people know or if they think the american way like me or what. Or if anything, the NVC is going to look at it all before the officer overseas so I guess we should be more worried about the NVC's americanized brains because I'm sure they don't know the systems (birth certs, addresses, etc) of foreign countries.

Here' a good idea for your DS-230 to make it easier for them to find info. I was a gov't bureaucrat for a while, so I know how much they appreciate organization. Since your SO is unlikely to have all the papers they ask for, also insert a cover letter and tabs for each requested paper. Here's a sample of how ours looked:

******************

(Petitoner's name & address)

National Visa Center

ATTN: CMR

32 Rochester Avenue

Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909

Date

Nature of the Submission: Applicant (SO's name) DS-230 & Supporting Documents

Dear Sir or Madam:

Attached, please find the following content:

Tab 1: DS-230, Application for Immigrant Visa w/addendum

Tab 2: Official copy of applicant's birth certificate & certified English translation

Tab 3: Court and prison record information

Tab 4: Deportation information

Tab 5: Official copy of marriage certificate & certified English translation

Tab 6: Marriage termination information

Tab 7: Military record information

Tab 8: Photocopy of valid passport biographic data page & certified English translation

Tab 9: Official police certificate & certified English translation

Tab 10: Photocopies of each official document listed above.

Thank you for your time and attention!

*********************

Addendum to DS-230

Part 1, Box 10: Please note that the address listed in box 10 of the application, (address), is the current physical address of the applicant’s petitioner/wife. This change of physical address has occurred since our prior submission, and is reflected in our current submission.

Part 1, Box 18: Mother’s place of birth has changed from what was offered in our I-130. The error occurred because the applicant believed that his parents were from the same village. The current information is from her ID card. It should be considered to be the correct information.

************

Then, I tabbed card stock paper to separate each document required for submission. If there was no paper, I added a page with such info. For example:

Court and prison record information

N/A

The applicant has no court or prison record

**************

Deportation information

N/A

The applicant has no deportation record

**************

Marriage termination information

N/A

Applicant is still married to his first wife, the petitioner

***************

Military record information

N/A

Applicant has never been in the military of any country

***************

Photocopies of submitted documents

***************

It's best to refer to each other as "Petitioner" and "Applicant" and/or "Beneficiary" because they do have trouble keeping the parties straight.

I hope this is helpful to you.
