My ex bought 40 pounds of home made cheese wrapped in suran wrap and about 10 pounds of beef jerky in a big plastic bag and they didn't say anything to her about it. This was at the border crossing in TJ

Good idea. Btw, bringing food from Mexico is different; the only thing you can't bring is pork.

Thanks for the link to the customs site, Satisfaction. Hard cheese is in fact legal, but needs to be declared. Same goes for other dairy products.

I think cheeses should pass the customs pretty easy. Well, I mean almost any cheese except MUNSTER!!! :content:

PS: for the little story, my Mom forgot a Munster once under the front seat of the car. It stayed there for a few days. Imagine how easy it was for us to find it!!!

I regularly travel back with hard cheese sealed up in a pack and have no problems. I'm pretty sure you can't bring soft cheese, plus the fact it will probably not survive very well on the long journey. Don't put it in your carryon - the cabin is way too hot for that. As long as you declare it, you're all set.

This thread inspired me to go out and get some brie last night. Mmmmm

Last time I came back from Egypt, I had some pastries with me. They got through customs ok, but after 30+ hours of travel, they didn't taste too good.
