I guess I never understood the "follow your heart no matter what" sensation that is constantly all over this board.

No, I didn't have to wait a long time for my fiance to come, but I can tell you that never in a million years would I quit my job and pack my life into a suitcase to spend a few months with my fiance knowing that upon my return I would have nothing. Sometimes you have to let your brain lead the way and leave your heart out of it. I know that some members pack up and move and that's great if they have the means to but if I were in your situation I just woulnd't do it. That's just me.

Well, there is a difference then between you and me....

I have lived off and on in the USA since I was 20. First Germany, then Australia and for the past 12 years I have been living in India for periods of 6 months to a year. Being a adaptable person has allowed me to find work fairly quickly. And since I don't blow my money on starbucks, eat out lunchs, don't have a car or a cell phone, dvd player or any of that stuff...I am able to save my money. And the most expensive thing about India is the flight. Daily life there is about $5 to $10 (room, food, transport).

There is a whole group of expatriates from US and Europe who work six months of the year and reside in India the other six months of the year. Beach lovers go to Goa and mountain lovers go to Himalayas.

If you can pull it off, replace your job when you return with the same and you have family to lean on without being a burden upon return I say take advantage of the opportunity, it will give you a better understanding of his world and that will be important here.

Dear Water is Wide,

I lived with my husband in Iran for three months. But they wanted to take my US passport when we tried to extend my tourist visa. They then refused to issue me an extension.

My husband and I can only meet in third party countries due to his lack of getting a tourist visa here and my lack of getting a tourist visa for Iran.

so where would you live?

Well, we will live in USA...But both my husband and I love India very much. My husband is an artist and so likes very much the colors of India. So we are hoping to be able to live half the year here and half the year in India.

I feel your pain, Nutty and understand your predicament. It's hard to not let your heart rule in situations like this.

First off, I would greatly consider the consequences of quiting your job. Is it a job that is easily replaced and with the same income level that you were at before? If you quit, could that negatively reflect future employment? How severely will your finances be affected should you chose to quit working for an extended time? And, is there anyone else that depends on your income besides yourself.

I'm sure you know by now how long Hicham and I were in AP, unfortunately, I have such a good paying job that I have many years invested in that it has never been an option of me leaving. I also have a young child and a house that greatly depend on my income.

Of course it's your decision to make, but having walked that path of AP hell, it's hard to not let your heart rule. There is an end to AP, I promise.

Best of luck to you and I hope that it all works out for you. :)

Wise advise.

I can say that if a career is important to you, and I am here to tell you that if you don't give some serious thought about it, then following this path will never get you anywhere but jobs that pay peanuts. I waited a long time to be with my husband. It wasn't easy trust me, but I have a career. How will I ever make anything more with my life if I don't take it seriously?

This is totally up to you of course, but think about the long term effects, not just what you want now.

I haven't seen a lot of petitions from Iran but the ones that I have seen haven't had to wait all that long in ap so I'm not sure where the worry is unless you're looking at Egypt which is just a different animal altogether. Do you know specifically of Iranians who have had a long AP after the interview?

Yes, I am looking at Egypt and Morroco...Seems like most people posting have SO's in those countries.

Belinda is the only other person on this board who has a fiance from Iran. Their petition is under AP since August I think.

Really, this job not a career....Nor will it ever transform into one. My future plans are really up in the air as far as "career" goes. I have one or two ideas that would require my going back to school. Of course all of this in discussion with my husband. However, the job I am doing now, it not a career choice and in fact, I desire to leave the corporate world of office work forever.

It's decided....

I won't be hasty and leave now....I will wait until March to see if the AP clears....(which I hope it does).

Then if it doesn't clear I will make arrangements to see my husband in April.

My husband understands and agrees that now is not the best time....But he also agrees we can't be seperate for more than a year.

I hope your AP clears and you don't have to worry about it. But I say, if you have the means to pick up and be together while you're waiting, go for it!

Just remember that when you do come back together to the US, you'll need somewhere to stay, you'll be supporting both of you while you wait for your husband to have permission to work, and you'll need to show that you have a steady income for AOS.

If I visit my husband it would be for 1 month, not more than this...

I have an apartment and will just pay the rent for the month that I am gone.

I am required to provide a joint sponsor (Consulate request), so this hopefully take care of the situation of financial questions....

If they ask me why I took time off, I will say...TO SEE MY HUSBAND (due to your delays in processing).
