Hey All,

Merry Christmas,

I am dealing with the Barbados Embassy, they aren't the most knowledgeable or helpful bunch,

They don't want to take the time to "clearly" explain what needs to be done,

They don't return e-mails,

It is difficult to get through to a "live" person,

Anyway, I was told that I would need to return a

1. DS-230 Pt I form.

2. The checklist.

3. "Free to Marry" form.

What is a "Free to Marry" form" ???

I have done Soooo Much research, and I've not heard of that,

They told me to fill out DS-156 electronically,

The DS-156 K is a supplement to the DS-156,

The DS-156k has "many" accompanying documents, and as such is intended for the interview,

Isn't this true ??

I'm trying to be as prepared as possible, State.gov helps me, why can't they ?

PS - I'm a little "disturbed": because it has taken 3 + weeks for the packet 3 to go 200 km,

Thanks

That form is to show that you are not married, that there is not currently registered marriage for you. You get that from some agency of the Barbados government. Perhaps somebody in the appropriate regional forum can advise you on how to obtain it.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Isn't the "free to marry" form the same as the Letter of Intent?

I'd also like to know because my fiance will be going to the Barbados embassy for his interview when the time comes.

AOS Timeline:

7/30/08: Sent AOS to Chicago lockbox

7/31/08: Received by USCIS

8/06/08: Check cashed

8/07/08: Rec'd NOA for I-485 AOS

8/07/08: AOS, EAD, & AP - Touched

8/08/08: Rec'd NOAs for EAD & AP

8/12/08: Rec'd Biometrics appt letter

8/21/08: Biometrics

9/29/08: EAD & AP - approved!!

10/6/08: EAD & AP - received in the mail!

2/06/09: Received interview notice for March 10th!!

3/10/09: Passed interview - husband's GC approved!!! Woohoo!!! :-)

01/2011: File to remove conditions

I don't think it's the same as the "letter of intent". It's more like the "affidavit of non-impediment" to marry that I had to pick up from the US Embassy Jakarta to marry there. Except that our embassy is asking the beneficiary to provide a similar document.

It's a sworn affidavit or similar document, issued by a government agency, saying you are free and have no restriction to marry. (smelling BS from one of our embassies, the jerks)
