I believe the government should allow these people a way out. They should be able to choose to leave the country and go back home, or, if that is not an option, there should be measures in place that they can take to make themselves legal without taking them out of the country and splitting up families. Afterall, isn't that what American values are about? Family, freedom...

And don't forget the rule of law. One of the first and foremost values in America. Rewarding those that have shown and do not intent to show any respect for the rule of the law would be a violent disregard of one of the most widely shared American value.

These people are allowed a way out. It's the reverse of the way they came in. In fact, they don't even have to risk anything crossing the desert on their way out. Any POE (point of exit in this case) will accomodate them easily. ;)

I think some people need to get off their high horses and calm down...

I personally would, never, ever have concidered coming here illegally. It is wrong, and downright silly.

But a lot of people do and that is just a fact of life. These people make big problems for themselves in later life when they decide to marry or have children. I'm sure a lot of people come here when they are young and stupid and as they get older and start to make a life for themselves here realize the enormity of their situation. By then there is little or no way out.

I believe the government should allow these people a way out. They should be able to choose to leave the country and go back home, or, if that is not an option, there should be measures in place that they can take to make themselves legal without taking them out of the country and splitting up families. Afterall, isn't that what American values are about? Family, freedom... Perhaps, they should pay a fine that can be paid within 'x' amount of time forcing those without jobs to get one (of course, they would have to grant these people employment authorization for the period of time in which the fine must be paid). Those that cannot pay must leave, they would have had their chance.

Yet, although I believe these people should have the option to make themselves llegal, the government needs to get its finger out and CRACK DOWN on the here and now. Secure our borders and put in place larger penalties for those caught with NO way out from the law. The $ amount raised through fines could be used for this.

Why get caught up with yesteryear? This is a new day. We need to concentrate on the future and not dwell in the past.

I know a lot of people will disagree, I don't want to debate or argue, just giving my opinion.

I agree with you completely - however I think a big problem of all of this is that since the congress decided to put it up for discussion more people than ever have crossed into the country. Dont quote me on this, but I believe that the figure was an increase by 26% a day. I am concerned about this because many of these people will die along the way dehydration etc...... Anyways it is just a mess and I dont think that all of the kinks are ANYWHERE near to being figured out so that we have some way of dealing with the issue that is fair to Americans and illegals alike, which of course would be ideal, but I have long given up on things working themselves out to be ideal!

ok. let's review. he's here illegally. he has a social security number that is fake. now maybe it's just me, but he sure seems to break a lot of laws and he's not even legal yet. imagine if you have a kid and that number happens to be given to your kid? sorry, id theft does not exactly fly far in my book.

the below is copied and pasted from the home page of this site:

Our goal is to educate and provide general information regarding family and marriage based immigration (K1, K3, DCF, etc) for a spouse, fiance, parent(s) or other close relatives to reunite and bring together families.

note that it states immigration based on k1 k3 etc. nowhere do i see where it includes or hints at assisting those who are here illegally.........

furthermore, do you think the corrupt government of mexico cares if people die on the way over here? they'd rather send as many of their citizens here as they can so they can continue to send money home and prop up mexico.

as for the topic of illegals not paying or paying social security - i'm sure that those who are paid in cash (and yes many are) don't ever report such.

I agree... I do believe that people should have the opportunity to change and better themselves.

However, I do ask that people pay for whatever crime they commit, or mistake that they knowingly made. That's called justice, and I think it's fair.

I thought what people were saying is that they're opposed to willy-nilly handing out "get out of jail free" cards. You make mistakes, you bear the consequences. Then you get to start over.

A tax evader can't hide behind his wife and kids. He's going to jail and then he gets to start over - with that felony record attached to his name. The question really is, why should some be more equal than others?

Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, its how you try to rectify them is what counts. I would have more respect for somone who said "i have been here illegally for 10 years and its wrong i am going home to fix this can your tell me what forms to fill out" than the woman here that was looking for a fat fix.

Nobody wants to stop them from fixing the mistake according to the law. File your applications, pack, go home and obtain your visa. Then come back and we'll welcome you.

What is going on, though, is people looking to bent and change the law (our law) to their needs so they can have an easier route to "fix" their mistakes. More often than not sounding the horns making claims that it is somehow our fault that they're breaking our laws. That's insolent and annoying.

yes, i'd be able to work and make money legally. but it's an analogy, comparing one incident of breaking the law to another. "but your honor, i'll pay a fine and it's all ok, right?"

from what i saw of the previous however many pages, all of this was about finding a way for him (her husband) to not have to go home.

now i've been to your country, brazil. i've paid my visa fee and followed the law to come visit my fiance. i'm a conservative. i believe laws are made for a reason. if i break the law i expect to pay the consequences. *note to self - buy radar detector*

and so far i've totaled up almost $4,000 following the law (physically meeting my fiance, filing fees, etc etc). again, i'm not rich. that's a chunk of change for me (plus i'm a spendthrift).

yet someone wanders into here and asks about a quick, easy way to allow their illegal husband to achieve the same status that i'm trying to achieve for my nessa legally, at a significant emotional and monetary cost? and i'm supposed to agree with that? roflmao
