Which visa for this situation?

As there would be no problem with you receiving mail (green card, social security card etc) at the "wrong" address I'd stick with that. It isn't like they are going to visit to check.

Fair enough. I don't really see any downside to using the "wrong" address as we will be flitting between the two houses anyway.

Well we are a bit nearer. I guess not many filed over the holiday period, the "today we are processing applications filed on..." date jumped by about 2 weeks in a week, if you see what I mean.

They are processing applications exactly 4 weeks "ahead" of mine. Hopefully that means about 5 weeks until I-130 approval!

Here's hoping for no RFEs.

I guess I should get packet 3 in a week or so.

Yes it comes pretty quick, as the section that deals with the I-130 at the Embassy only has to send the file over to the visa section. All in the same building.

If you got everything ready for the visa application you could almost send it back the day you receive it. Doesn't take long to fill the actual form out, certainly could be done for sending back the next day.

Packet 3 arrived this morning!

All seems fine, with the one exception that's still making me a bit worried - the absence of my birth father's details on my birth certificate. "The birth certificate must state the date and place of birth and the names of both parents."

Is there anyone out there who has applied for a visa with a missing father's name on their birth certificate? Any advice as to whether this caused any problems at interview?

I think that is a very rare situation and it may well be that no-one else on VJ is among those that had this problem. Lots of people apply for a visa but only a small minority belong to VJ

Unfortunately you seem to be in a situation where you can only send what you have and see what happens. It will almost certainly be questioned at the interview just be as prepared as you can to show them the reasons.

Congratulations. Glad it all went OK

If you are getting near to the six months for the visa expiring, fly to New York for a quick vacation. Activate the visa and then come home again.

Give then you in-laws address for your green card and social security card to be sent too. Have the in-laws send them to you by UPS. Remember that your wife has to be in the USA for you to enter on the visa, so you can't fly to New York alone unless she has already come over. Quite a few people have to do this to avoid the visa expiring before they have wrapped up their affairs in the UK. Gives you another six months to finish everything up. Probably cheaper than having to go through the whole visa process again.
