Hunting of exotic species and apex predators is obnoxious. If you want to hunt a bear for bragging rights, be a real man about it. Shooting a bear from a safe distance just makes a person that much less-respectable in my eyes. Go get a katana and take down a bear and I will call you a man. I will not question your manhood and I'll make up Chuck Norris-type jokes about you. Shoot a grizzly from 100 yards away with a .270 and I will make jokes about your undersized genitalia every chance I get.

Ok ... so ... you like the animal to suffer ... don't believe in quick clean kills.

That said, you cannot just assume a person is pro-hunting or anti-hunting. I fall somewhere in the middle. I think that trophy hunting is stupid and the people who do it have some underlying insecurity. My brother hunts whitetail and I love the meat. That said, the meat will be used and he will not shoot a button buck or dumb ####### like that.

Do you just spend all day trying to put words into other people's mouths? I don't actually expect anyone to go hunt grizzlies with a katana, but I do think that people who hunt for the sake of killing are douchebags.....used douchebags.....think yeast infections......and foul odors.....that's what I think of them.

I think it's silly and sadistic; and I think the people that do it have an inclination toward murder as they have lost connection with human empathy.

It is worth remembering that some hunters actually hunt for food. A Good hunter will tell you that you should not kill unless you can make it a quick death - and to use as much of the animal as is possible. Good hunters actually despise those who claim to be hunters yet seem unaware of rules of hunting. Killing out of the agreed seasons is a no no as far as a good hunter is concerned. Fox hunting in UK was primarily unpopular because it was difficult to see how chasing an animal down and watching it being savaged by a pack of hounds could be construed as humane. If the fox is a pest - shoot it - many orchard owners in Washington State find deers a nuisance and welcome hunters. There are always two sides to every coin...and to debate effectively you need to at least consider both sides.

Agreed, hunting past your limit or out of season just because doesn't paint a good picture on hunters. Although a friend of mine used to poach and the DNR looked the other way. His family was poor and poaching was the only way they got food on the table. I don't fault him for wanting to eat. This was back in the 60's-70's.

Funny you bring up deer as pests. There are a ton of vehicle/deer accidents in MN every year, they go into peoples gardens and clean them out, etc. The state will set up a day in areas where you can bag a deer. The meat goes to local shelters.

You stated the words ... to hunt with a single-edged sword (katana) and "be a real man".

Just comparing your words of the .270 (I took the liberty of choosing an appropriate load for bear) w/150gr bullet (MV of 2800 fps) delivering approx 2256 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards to the single edge sword (cant find data on this). You must be one strong man with a sword.

Oh ... sorry you were joking and forgot to mention that ...

So it's ok for livestock to break a leg because it stepped into a burrow (hole) or equipment gets damaged because the PDogs or gophers have turned the land into a moonscape. So ... how will the varmit population be controlled?

I think it is fair to say that Bumpy doesn't sit around all day and put words into peoples mouths. Rather, he does enjoy the occasional sitting and watching people opening their mouths and inserting a foot or two.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

actually, some critters are classified as varmits due to what damage they cause - livestock, crops, etc. whether a groundhog, coyote, or whatever, if it's classified as a varmit by the state they usually have no season on them - i.e. they can be hunted year round.
